I forgot how amazing this song is - from Noel’s most recent album, Council Skies (2023). Easily the best on the album. Everything about this song is brilliant. Masterpiece.
Let's drink to the future, I hope it comes 'round again.

I listened to Council Skies yesterday. The instrumental section of Think of a Number gets me every time. When that second guitar comes in wailing ... shivers down my spine.

The switch up when he gets to the “forgive my indecision…” absolutely brilliant songwriting right there, gets me every time

hands down in my opinion the best song on CS The truth won't hurt nobody Why do we still play pretend ? Don't ever tell me that you love me Cos this might be the end
its just a shame we'll probably never hear this live, this song is the brother to while the song remains the same both are top tier bonafide NG

It has enough melodies and arrangement ideas for at least 2 different songs. Reminds me of the early Oasis era in that sense.A true highlight of his solo career

This. Two absolutely brilliant tunes with great guitars that we got robbed of listening to live versions. I mean come on Noel, give us more of those gems.

I like the whole of Council Skies, relistened to it recently and Love is A Rich Man is the only song I don't really care for. Sure I've got my complaints with some of the recording choices and some melodies here and there as we all do but as a whole I still find it a very good listen.
BUT this one and Dead to The World are the two songs that really elevate the whole experience, and remind me of how *special* it can get with Noel's songwriting. They're catchy, they're vulnerable, they're perfectly crafted in a way that doesn't take anything away from the rawness of the emotions. I'm glad we can still get something like this 30 years into his career, even if it's just for a couple of tunes per album.

I always feel like "Sail On" was supposed to be saved for Council Skies and it was probably going to be mixed in to begin "Think of a Number" as "Sail On" ends. That soundscape he inserted into Sail On and then also, leaving it in "Think of a Number" can't be a coincidence.

I always thought the ending of TOAN was the same soundscape as the end of Trying to Find a World That’s Been and Gone? Like so both “sides” of the album end the same. But I like your idea better

After the first verse, there’s that lonely one line “And there’s nothing mooore to say…”
I swear it’s the most emotional and sad thing I’ve heard Noel sing. Gets me every time.

Easily the best tune on Council Skies. The Pet Shop Boys remix is brilliant too.

I love it. Falling down crossed with Broken Arrow with a bit of early 90's era Cure thrown in. It's up there with the best Noel has written since 1997 and I never hear it really talked about.

Anyone coming in new to the band due to all the recent Reunion buzz needs to give this tune a listen, as it shows Noel's still got the nack for writing powerful melodies and lyrics that hit you right in your feelings from the very first listen. If new Noel-written Oasis material is on the horizon, I'd hope this is a taster for what is to come... 🤞

I wish he had done an acoustic set for Council Skies, there are so many songs from there I'd love to listen to stripped down (not me, the song), with this topping the list. He could sit down one evening, record 5-6 tunes in a jiffy, and release them on Record Stores Day. Wouldn't even take an effort.

It would have been nice if NG did the same thing as he did for the bonus disc on Back the Way We Came, with the stripped back mixes of tracks. That version of If I Had A Gun is beautiful 😍

Of course we did get these two acoustic mixes from the Japanese release of the record, with Easy Now being the standout for me. I would personally have loved to have got versions like this for TOAN & Dead To The World too

I love this song, one of the best he's done in my view. A shame there was never a little live acoustic version for it like he did with While the Song Remains the Same. I really can't imagine how it could've worked as an opener as was originally planned, it makes for a perfect closer.
