Question for specialists: There's a Some Might Say (demo version) with Noel on vocals released in 2014. That means they indeed recorded stuff before recording MG. Yet Noel claims there is no demo of MG. Do you think he could be lying and that there will be a lot of surprises in MG 30 ? Bar Step Out (Liam) and possibly DLBIA with Liam too, there could a lot of alternate takes they never mentionned. Noel has said in the past how he thinks of Some Might Say as separate from Morning Glory (almost like a standalone single, same as Whatever) because it was recorded and released before the rest of the album recording started. So that's why I think the "no demo" thing is different for that song.

Bar Step Out (Liam) and possibly DLBIA with Liam too, there could a lot of alternate takes they never mentionned. Owen Morris has confirmed that Liam never recorded Don’t Look Back in Anger. It doesn’t exist and it isn’t magically going to appear all of a sudden. If it did we would certainly have heard something of its existence by now. There’s no reason for Owen to lie about this or to doubt his memory. We have the Coyley recordings of Hello, Rockin Chair, and She’s Electric. Anything else from this session that still exists unreleased is more likely to have Noel on vocals. There could be stuff unreleased but we don’t know. But songs like Chanpagne Supernova, DLBIA, and Wonderwall were written later that this anyway. We know exactly when DLBIA was written. Some Might Say was always separate to the rest of Morning Glory. But we know the Liam sung Step Out exists though. Any surprise tracks are likely to have Noel on vocals though. Roll With is the only song they recorded live as a band so there are different takes of that but it doesn’t sound like they’d be in anyway different to the version we have. We have both mixes of Wonderwall (the official version and the alternate version on Stop the Clocks). Jim mentioned Brian Cannon’s cassette of different Wonderwall version and an unreleased track the other day. We don’t know what might exist but Liam vocals are always a bit rarer as any “demos” are likely to just be Noel and an acoustic guitar. Hello - Coyley Roll With It - nothing earlier than studio recording released Wonderwall - nothing earlier than studio recording but we do know Noel recorded a couple of versions. The one in the wall for example Don’t Look Back in Anger - live debut at Sheffield. Written the week before. Not a long gap between performance and recording. Confirmed no Liam sung version Hey Now! - Club Quattro soundcheck Some Might Say - Club Quattro, plus two demo recordings all with Noel on vocals. All released. Cast No Shadow - I don’t know if any earlier versions She’s Electric - Coyley Morning Glory - There’s the acoustic version that starts acquiesce. Good be a Noel acoustic demo or his acoustic guide track for the recording sessions. Champagne Supernova - Noel played this for the band on the tour bus. Other than the studio guide track we don’t know of anything “other recordings” Bonehead’s Bank Holiday - Club Quattro and there’s the unreleased Bonehead version Rockin Chair - Coley version The Masterplan - no Liam vocals recorded Step Out - Liam vocals exist.

Intresting nonetheless, Noel was in his prime and those demos / alternate takes / guide vocals could be very interesting, even if there's only a few
thanx!

I’ll take anything that exists!
There’s still a few bits from DM like the Live Forever Demo and Walrus studio that haven’t been officially released.
U2 have a live EP out at the moment. I would like to see oasis start to do these types of releases. Even if we have the gigs unofficially. It would be nice to have official releases. Especially from 1994-1998.
Noel has said he recorded bits on various Walkmans around the house in the early days. If anything exists, release them!

You know that episode of The Simpsons where Flanders is transformed into a talking cow? It’s one of the Treehouse of Horror episodes.
When I start talking about stuff I want oasis to release all I can think of his Flanders saying “miiiiiiiiiiiilk me”.
I want oasis to milk me!
30th anniversary of Maine Road. Both nights in BluRay and both nights on CD and Vinyl. Small coffee table book of the gigs. Tacky merch. Give it to me!!!

Yeah it was recorded before the album session coz the single was released in april and MG was recorded from May that year. Its the last Oasis songs recorded with Tony. What made me ask that question is that SMS Noel's demo sounds very polished for a demo, almost an alternate take. So there could be more of other songs demoed in the same way. who knows.

I'm very much not a specialist when it comes to recorded material so if anyone knows more than I do please correct me. Noel's been quoted before as saying that (of the newer non-Definitely Maybe era stuff i.e. not 'Hello', 'She's Electric' or 'Rockin' Chair') 'Some Might Say' was the only song they demoed for Morning Glory. It's seemingly the only full band demo. Interestingly there's a version with pretty poor vocals from Noel (which is presumably the original) and a version with better vocals. The acoustic Noel sung 'Some Might Say' from the 2014 reissue is a soundcheck recording. It's not really known if it was considered a demo at the time recording or if Oasis management have retrospectively applied that label to it. I believe there is some additional material that could potentially be included in the reissue. Here are some examples off the top of my head... - The version of 'Wonderwall' that was recorded outside (whilst sat on a wall) that can be heard at the start of 'Hello'. - The Noel sung acoustic version of 'Morning Glory' that can be heard at the start of 'Acquiesce'. - Brian Cannon has a tape (apparently Paul Gallagher has the same one) which reportedly contains 6 versions of Wonderwall, an unreleased song and "loads more". Brian Garcia who's heard it says of the unreleased song " Professional studio recording...the quality sounds like it was recorded 10 minutes ago. Just Noel, his voice and an acoustic. It's very very mellow, calm and if you listen closely a verse sounds a bit like a slow very mellowed out version of "The Fame" but then quickly changes to a different sound in the chorus." - Additional soundcheck recordings. 'Champagne Supernova' can be heard being soundchecked in late 1994 (along with 'It's Getting Better (Man!!)) - Supposedly Noel played some 'Be Here Now' stuff acoustically to the band during the Morning Glory sessions. Whether this was recorded or not we don't know. Presumably it would have been 'Stand by Me', 'All Around the World', 'Don't Go Away', 'Going Nowhere' and maybe a few others.

Noel then switched the instrumentation to acoustic guitars and now the song breathed properly.” So I wonder if there’s an electric version of Rockin Chair somewhere?

Yeah the BHN « demos » from MG days would be great To start this discussion i got mixed up: i meant the electric version of SMS on the japanese version of a single, which is slower and sung by Noel . Always thought they included it on the reissue, apparently not (i didnt buy it)

I'm a little underwhelmed by the live recordings we've received over recent years. The live version of some might say from the stop the clocks ep was missing the guitar solo. The live songs from the morning glory deluxe version are terrible and the supersonic streaming release recently was pretty throw away. Not sure who signs off on all of these but there are far better versions out there on a lot of soundboard bootlegs.

I've always loved the rawness of the electric version from Bournemouth '95: I don’t care how technically good he is but there’s just something about Noel’s lead playing that feels right. Love that version. Agreed. Noel invented a guitar style, mixing technic and feel. Its not overly complicated, sometimes very simple, but it (used to at least) nail every fill, every solo, for being exactly what the song needed. that's talent. More so than wanking the guitar. This is not hard. What's hard it to transpose the spirit of a song into a few notes. I had never heard that version, crazy to think this could have been a huge single back in the day.

That would annoy the absolute shit out of me, its not as if you can send it back either.. Same thing with trainers, as a collector I absolutely hate it when retailers don't double box them, a bashed box on a limited release just ruins the whole excitement and vibe for me because again, you can't exactly return them because they're sold out.

Yeah not the greatest but like you say what you gonna do. They aren’t cellophaned as the numbers are hand written so maybe that makes them more vulnerable to damage
