Early reviews (Mojo, RS, Slant) all cite 'On the Game' as a highlight. I have heard the live versión a couple of times and seems like a good song, but maybe a bit formulaic ? I'm quite surprised they didn't try to write a middle 8 instead of one of the 2948 guitar breaks, but then it's The Black Keys and we probably look at it through the Noel prism At the same time, it's extremely catchy and quite anthemic, which I'm sure it's not as common for Black Keys listeners as it is for us, hence the response it's getting I guess

He does backing vocals. That's better than nothing. I'll check it out for sure, but I must admit I'm not as excited.

Downloaded the 3 Noel collaborated tracks. I like “Only Love” the best followed by “On The Game” and “You’ll Pay”. I’d love to see Noel tackle “Only Love” with the HFB. It’s extremely catchy and should be a single but who knows.
Are the wiki notes correct that Noel co-wrote those 3, sang backup on all 3 but only contributed guitar to “On The Game”? That would be a bummer and a waste of having the chief in studio.

Haven't heard the full Noel songs yet, but to me, there's a huge difference between a song WRITTEN BY Noel (which will have his melodies in the verse/chorus) and a song where Noel just plays guitar.
Curious if any of the tunes sound like Noel-penned song?

My vinyl copy arrived a day early. The 3x NG songs sound great. On the Game and Only Love Matters sound NG-ish; of course, Auerbach's voice is very different... You'll Pay is a little less obviously NG-sounding, at least to me. Still like it, though. These 3 songs are the standouts to me + the cover of I Forgot to Be Your Lover. I'm also a big Beck fan, and you can tell Beck is all over the songs he co-wrote; but they're a little less exciting to me. Sort of blend together.

The whole record was a good/fun listen - also liked all the songs Noel was involved. First half of Only Love got a bit of QOTSA vibe too.
I would like to hear a Liam LP produced by Dan Auerbach

On The Game is a certified tune
(I think they're also releasing it as a single, there's a video coming out)
Only Love Matters is not half bad either

I like the three songs and the album is solid.
'On the Game' sounds so obviously Noel. My guess is that the new "rock" album will sound pretty much like this. The song is catchy and anthemic, but at the same time I can't avoid the feeling Noel could write this in 1 hour (and maybe he did, according to the Black Key interviews).
You'll pay is my favourite at this time. I think I recognize Noel's sparkle in the chord changes and the melody in the "What would all my friends and family say" / "Open up your heart and let me in" parts.

On The Game is by far the worst song on the album, in my opinion. Very bland; I do really dig Only Love Matters, though.

Would be cool if Noel included one of these tracks in his setlist. Will never happen.

If Noel is gonna continue to do joint tours in America, he should consider one with the Black Keys. Garbage ain’t my thang but the Keys are. Especially their 2006-2010 output.

I love their early stuff (Thickfreakness comes to mind) but El Camino is just tops to me. Deserved that grammy.
