About Definitely Maybe... I love it and for me it's their best album but I would have changed a few things in the tracklist to make it even more perfect.
This is my personal view:
Rock 'n' Roll Star
Columbia
Live Forever
Up in the Sky
Supersonic
Bring It on Down
Cigarettes & Alcohol
(It's Good) To Be Free
Slide Away
Fade Away
Digsy's Dinner
Cloudburst
Whatever
The B-sides:
Married with Children
Shakermaker
What do you think about it?

i would remove aint got nothing from DOYS and replace it with TBWTB I've been re-evaluating DOYS a lot lately. I'm really appreciating it. It is less "commercial" than others which is also a good thing. I wouldn't replace any of those songs. I would just add BWTB. The mix is also much better than many other albums.

It's not less commercial for artistic reasons, it's less commercial because the songs are bland and forgettable. There's no absolute timeless classics on there. No pop songs at all and no tunes that stick in your head. Just lumbering tunes really. Shock of the Lightning is grand and Falling Down, the rest is meh.

And anyway I'm Outta Time that you haven't mentioned has been included in the collection "1000 best songs ever". And I personally consider it a jewel.

I love Definitely Maybe, but I would have put Alive and Cloudburst instead of Digsy's Dinner and Shakermaker.

I don't like your retracking of Definitely Maybe and honestly, it is the only Oasis album that doesn't benefit from some adjustment to the tracklisting (particularly Be Here Now & SOTSOG). Even in MG, I would swap Hello for Acquiesce and Hey Now for the Masterplan, the former being a stronger opener and better song and the latter would better justify having an instrumental interlude.
Slide Away being put in the second last slot followed by Married with Children was a genius decision by Noel that mirrored what the Beatles did with the medley followed by Her Majesty on Abbey Road.
You go through this big raucuous journey of working class dreams of stardom and self affirmation which reaches its peak in the outro of slide away only to end up married with children... It's a great juxtaposition and rather poetic.
The only thing I have ever changed is mirroring the Japanese release of the album by inserting Cloudburst between Live Forever and Up in the Sky. It is a great song that fits the album sonically and thematically like a glove and doesn't disturb the flow. I don't like Sad Song in the middle of the record though. That was a bizarre choice for the vinyl and Japanese releases.

That was a bizarre choice for the vinyl and Japanese releases. Blimey, really? Hello's an absolute belter of a track, maybe the most underrated song Noel has ever written because, while I know it is highly rated, I think it is honestly up there with their best. Maybe one of the best melodies he's ever done, strip away the wall of sound production and its unbelievable melancholy. " And it's never gonna be the same, 'cos the years are falling by like the rain" is one of the best delivered line and melodies in music history.

I like it! Personally, I have zero issues with DM as it is, but if I was playing God, Fade Away NEEDS to be on there in a proper version. That was one of the "big" early songs and it's weird that it was kinda sidelined a little bit. Cloudburst deserves to be on there as well, but sometimes I don't think it "fits", kinda like how Round Are Way is a great track, but it doesn't really fit on Morning Glory (in my opinion). I think Shakermaker is great in slot 2 and a worthy "album cut". Married works great as a closer imo so I have to disagree there. Putting Whatever on there is interesting, but I don't think it works (for me) - DM is very "raw" and barebones and Whatever sees them heading clearly towards the Morning Glory style. Now, if they recorded it without strings in a more "rocky" version, I could jive with the song itself being on here somewhere.

Ok - Don't Believe the Truth I have zero qualms with the album as released. I think it's just exactly perfect. Sure there are "lesser" songs, but it all contributes to a greater whole, etc. Everything is PERFECT within the context of the album. That being said.... Stop The Clocks Lord Don't Slow Me Down Record Machine Don't Stop Who Put the Weight Of the World On My Shoulders ^^^^Those 5 deserve inclusion somewhere. I think they made a good call with what they released - I think it was a matter of make an all-killer no-filler album with zero "balance" or make a strong album with FLOW that has great peaks and valleys, causing the peaks to impact even higher. They clearly went with the latter. I can't see including any of the above without really kicking other stuff off, which is the problem. My point is - it seems like they realized they had multiple songs that filled the same "roles" and had to make a some tough calls. I maintain DBTT is terrific and easily #3 behind DM and Morning Glory in "pure album strength", probably tied with Be Here Now but a tad better on the song quality front.... Just my 2 cents...

Acquiesce Roll With It Some Might Say Don't Look Back In Anger Wonderwall Hello The Masterplan Rockin' Chair Morning Glory Cast No Shadow Headshrinker Champagne Supernova Ooh, I like your idea for Morning Glory. Personally, I can't dream of moving Hello - it's literally the perfect opener. BUT!!!! I would go: Hello>Acquiesce>Roll With It. Now THAT would be sick! Actually, I like it if you move Wonderwall BEFORE Roll With It. You have 2 rockers to open, then Wonderwall, then Roll With It to pick it back up. Just played it and flows perfectly (in my opinion!). I love Hey Now as well, but always think it goes twice as long as it needs to - that damn drum "fake out", lol. I like your replacement of it with The Masterplan. That's a great spot for it in the album!!! Also, Step Out NEEDS to be on there somewhere - what a kickass tune and it was originally supposed to be on it anyways. I am Step Out Fan Numero Uno and I support this message Finally, Bonehead's Bank Holiday....I love this song dearly, but I do not think it fits the album at all. It would be terrific if labeled as a proper B-side though, so I remove it (I count it as an official Morning Glory track). So, my Morning Glory could be something like this: 1. Hello 2. Acquiesce 3. Wonderwall 4. Roll With It 5. Don't Look Back In Anger 6. The Swamp Song into... 7. The Masterplan 8. Some Might Say 9. Cast No Shadow 10. She's Electric 11. Step Out 12. Morning Glory 13. Champagne Supernova

I disagree - It’s a fine B tier rocker but maybe that’s just my preference (I’m also not huge Gas Panic! or DYKWIM? Which seems to be blasphemy on this forum). It does the job, but I think acquiesce fulfils the role of album opener better. Then again, I still think Morning Glory is excellent as is. The chorus melody is good, but up there with the best? Something like Listen Up or Champagne Supernova is what it’s up against - not sure it stacks up with that kind of competition.

I definitely would have replaced Ain't Got Nothing with I Believe In All on Dig Out Your Soul. Also, (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady should never have made that album.

It’s not really on theme though one supposes: “Tonight - I’m a rock & roll star” “You and I are gonna live forever” “I need to be myself - I can be no one else” “You gotta make it happen” “These could be the best days of our lives” “Now that you’re mine - we’ll find a way” Doesn’t really fit with “The dreams we have as children fade away” “Now I’m sure - you’ve boarded up every door” Perhaps a stretch, perhaps cherry-picking, but that’s what I’ve always assumed.

Everyone's gonna hate me, but I've never, ever been a fan of Rockin' Chair. It's a great song, but for some reason the "folky" vibe of it just never sounds right. Maybe if it was fully acoustic, ala the 2006 Stop the Clocks shows or something, because the electric versions are just as clunky-seeming to me. Just happenned to think of that seeing it on your playlist
