Any dance/electronic fans on the forum? I’m excited for The Chemical Brothers new album out next month. The Orb have just announced their second album this year, a new version of Metallic Spheres, their collaboration with David Gilmour. I never felt the original album landed right, so I’m interested to hear the new remix. 100% huge fan. Chems stuff is always a treat. Sometimes a little almost parody of themselves with the output.genius altogether though. These guys and Orbital..whose last album on the whole was cracking..Sleaford mods didn't fuck it up! On the blinding Dirty Rat tune...as well as Underworld are the backbone to any decent night in, out or shake it all about escapade. The expanded version of optical delusion is out today. spotify.link/k2z6xIq8tDb

Mid Air by Romy from the xx is an amazing record, I'd been waiting for it since Lifetime was released in 2020 and she really didn't disappoint

I love sample spotting.
I was listening to this great post punk box set - some proper underground stuff on here - and spotted where The Chemical Brothers lifted the No Reason vocals from:

Can't say I've delved much into the world of techno music but I like some of McCartney's Fireman trance stuff (especially some of the remixes). Some of The Chemical Brothers stuff is nice but most is a bit too fast for me. I love Setting Sun but I can't listen to an hour of it.
Any recommendations from people here? Looking at darker, slow stuff. Trance, Blade Runner type soundscapes. Sorry, I don't even know quite how to describe it.
They were playing some great stuff on the radio the other night from the 1990s (some trance band who only did two albums) and I wrote down the name of the band but lost the bit of paper!

This is Andy Bell’s electronic music… GLOK. Might fill the type you are looking for. Two albums and loads of remixes available. If you like it, opens up a whole range of sound like Andrew Weatherall and more.

This isn’t my usual go-to music but I’ve lately been feeling the urge to check out some big artists and albums from the UK 90s that I never heard (or much of) before like Portishead, Massive Attack, Chemical Bros, Primal Scream, the Prodigy. Enjoying the journey so far. I have to say Massive Attack’s Mezzanine album is tremendous!

There's so many quality music made by UK bands in that very time frame, regardless of genre or style. I was 16 and I remember listening to the first 4 tracks of Mezzanine on repeat in my room in the autumn of 1999, just from Angel to Inertia Creeps, because it's such a perfect run.

I also love the Chemical Brothers. Dig Your Own Hole and Surrender are their best work IMO. I'd also like to add Ghospoet as a recommendation. I really like his albums and his unique rapping and singing style.

The 90s was a great time for electronic music, so many completely new genres emerging and cross-pollinating each other. Some others for you to try next: Orbital, Aphex Twin, The Orb, DJ Shadow, Underworld, Roni Size, Goldie, Fatboy Slim (his mega-hits might be overplayed but try Better Living Through Chemistry, great stuff)…

Orbital just gave their debut album the deluxe box set treatment:
Some nice b-sides and rare tracks I’d not heard before.

Yes but every album has a couple of stand out tracks so you might be better starting with a best of like Work or 20, especially if you’re more of a rock fan. Their debut is v techno with long repetitive tracks. The best ofs have the shorter single edits with more guitars and vocals.
