It’s strange that even though quite a few people loathe it, we’d probably all be interested in the wealth of material recorded at the time of there was an outtakes release. Yeah, it's a testament to what we know could have been VS what it was in the end.

I don't know... I reckon DBTT has 2 exceptional song on it? Whereas HC has 5 on it. DOYS has 5 on it. SOTSOG has 4.
It just doesn't hold up compared to any other project.

How can you hate this? Top atmosphere. Absolute bedlam. Dreadful track. It hinges on Liam's ability to have a decent vocal, otherwise it completely falls apart. I'm glad you love it though.

I feel it has about 6 or 7 decent or better than decent songs on it, compared to 4 or 5 off SOTSOG, 3 or 4 off HC and 6 off DOYS.

I wouldn't say SOTSOG, HC, DBTT and DOYS has anything that's "exceptional". Exceptional is like The Masterplan, Live Forever and other gems. SOTSOG has 4 great songs, HC has 2-3 great songs and 2-3 good songs, DBTT has maybe 2 great songs and 8 good songs and DOYS has one I think is near-exceptional song (Falling Down), 4 great songs and 4 good songs.

Ah come on, The Importance Of Being Idle is exceptional, it wouldn't sound out of place on WTSMG imo.

Totally agree. It's as close to Ray Davies as you're going to get, without it being Ray Davies.

Ah come on, The Importance Of Being Idle is exceptional, it wouldn't sound out of place on WTSMG imo. It's one of the great songs for sure. But I wouldn't qualify it as exceptional myself. Would it fit on Morning Glory? I'm not sure either but MG is not made solely of exceptional songs either. To be exceptional, a song should have something of exception like Live Forever, The Masterplan, Let's All Make Believe, Gas Panic, Champagne Supernova, Bring It On Down, Cast No Shadow, Wonderwall, Some Might Say, Roll It Over are some example of songs I would qualify as exceptional. Nothing about the last 3 records qualifies, to me anyway.

The Importance Of Being Idle is certainly a tune but I'm not sure if it would fit on (What's The Story) Morning Glory though.

You had me until Roll It Over. That's just an un-listenable dirge to me
Much as I like The Importance of Being Idle, I agree it would not fit on WTSMG (or any other Oasis album tbh). It's a perfect fit with the sound of DBTT I think.

OK well remove that on, can you really argue with any of the others?

Let's be honest, none of these albums have any exceptional songs on them apart from Stop Crying Your Heart Out and perhaps Gas Panic!. The rest range from good to guff. Let's not lower our standards for 2000 Oasis please. I have to agree with The Chief on this one

I also think Don't Believe the Truth is their third best album. The way I would rank their albums would be as follows:
Morning Glory Definitely Maybe
--Then there is a drop off until--
Don't Believe the Truth Dig Out Your Soul
--And another drop off until--
Be Here Now Heathen Chemistry Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.
Don't Believe the Truth has some great songs on it like Dig Out Your Soul, but Don't Believe the Truth is a bit more consistent overall. Dig Out Your Soul's last handful of tunes (as has been mentioned by others here over the years) don't quite live up to the first seven or eight songs on the album (which varies based on musical taste). Earlier this year when going through what he finds wrong with each Oasis album and NGHFB album, the only two albums Noel did not criticize were Definitely Maybe and Don't Believe the Truth.
I read something on an Allmusic review for an Oasis album that really stuck with me. Since Oasis's songs are usually pretty simple, the difference between a great Oasis song and an average Oasis song isn't much. This is probably why there is so much variation of opinion regarding pretty much all Oasis albums.

I'm with you on the studio version of Roll It Over. The live version has converted me though.
