Hey gang
While reading some of the reviews for Noel's latest album, I have seen a lot of talk of the songs sounding like other songs / artists.
I haven't read them all, but of the ones i did read, i've seen mentions of
Café del mar Prince The Cure Robbie Williams New Order The Animals Bruce Springsteen George Harrison (solo) The Stone Roses The Zombies The Beatles Nick Drake Burt Bacharach The Who Pink Floyd And that's before the references to songs that sound like other oasis / NGHFB songs
Is it just me, or is it only Noel who gets so consistently linked to other songs/artists? It seems to me like every time he puts out a record, it's like "oh, that sounds like Champagne Supernova" or "he's gone back to his Beatles roots" or some shit like that
To be fair, it's possible i'm just a grumpy old man, but i'd love to know if other people have the same opinion as mine
Peace and love Cozzy

Some people, especially critics/journos, tend to do it out of laziness They can't be bothered to explain how something feels/sounds/reads/looks so just use comparisons to get their points across Then there are the haters who usually have a field day with this because everyone copies and takes inspiration but Noel's probably as honest as you can get with it and that results in people thinking "if he admits it himself then why can't I accuse him of it any time i have the chance?"

Love Is a Rich Man's verse melody sounds like a DMA's song but I can't remember which one, i haven't listened to them in a while but I recognized it.
I never got this one though to be honest. In the early days on Oasis' first 3 albums he legitimately did rip off quite a few other songs but since then I think he's moved towards evoking a similar tone to certain songs. You also have to remember that he writes pop/rock songs on an acoustic guitar using mostly standard chords in conventional time signatures and this type of music has been getting made for 60-70 years now. There are only so many chord sequences and melodies to choose from and inevitably anyone writing within that framework is going to end up producing derivative parts whether they mean to or not. I challenge any talented songwriters on here to put together some 'Noel chords' in a sequence, come up with a melody and have it be totally original. It's borderline impossible by this point. I know that every single time I've tried to write a song that I think is remotely decent I've realized that actually it's a rip off of something I've heard before whether I meant to or not.

I agree, there is no other artist whose music is scrutinised so harshly as Noel's when it comes to looking for similarities to his influences. It all stems from the Beatles comparisons, and the only clear rip there is She's Electric. It's a tedious exercise
