a lotta peeps on here refer to HFB1 and CY being the best of noel’s solo career, but there are so many gems since.
TMWBTM, Sail On, Dead In the Water, Dead to the World, Flying on the Ground, Easy Now, We’re On Our Way Now, She Taught Me How to Fly…
All of these are right up there with his best imo. He’s had such a consistent output of quality tunes…

I don't really hear a great deal of difference in quality from HFB1 to now. Some of the EP tracks were fairly weak but that's why they were on the EP's. I just wish he was more prolific in releasing music, he always claims to be sitting on dozens of unreleased songs and I'm pretty sure this current album was finished quite a while ago. 4 albums and 3 EP's over 12 years is about what you'd expect from Noel but i wish we'd get some more non album singles, some B-sides (I know it's 2023 but if he's got so many songs stashed away why not?) or occasionally drop a more low key album release like an acoustic album and just do some smaller acoustic shows like he did in 2006 or a more experimental album that would be difficult to reproduce live.

Teaming up with Holmer and expanding the Birds into their current line up has given him a lease of life that you never thought he was gonna get. What artists do off the beaten track of what you expect them to doesn't take away from what made you love them in the first place.

I love WBTM more than the first two records (although they had some lovely b-sides/bonus tracks), the EPs have lower peaks, but I'd say the overall quality is still good, wouldn't compare them to a proper record When you experiment you're bound to disappoint some, but as you said there are some absolute gems he released from 2017 onwards Dead in The Water, She Taught Me How To Fly, The Man Who Built The Moon, Flying on The Ground, Dead to the World, This is The Place all belong to my best of HFB list
