Those three songs are an "anomaly" in the Oasis catalog.
Where do they belong for you if you had to make double albums : Definitely Maybe era or Morning Glory era ?

Definitely DM, mainly because of the drums. Tony's playing is so recognizable.

Whatever should've been given the BHN production treatment, so it should belong there, the rest: DM.

Definitely DM, mainly because of the drums. Tony's playing is so recognizable. Yeah but what about Some Might say, Acquiesce and headshrinker which also have Tony McCaroll ? What about talk tonight, which was recorded the same day as Half the World away ? Still bugging me. Sometimes it's DM, sometimes it's MG Whatever is always neither, or MG, but never DM. It's driving me crazy (not really). Big problem i Know, but that's been bugging me since 1995

It has the Definitely Maybe style to it, and yeah, I also agree that the Some Might Day single also has that feeing as well. Majority of those b-sides were recorded in 1994, so it might be because of that.

Because of the drumming, I identify Some Might Say as a DM song. The drumming kind of annoys me a bit when I listen to MG. Acquiesce is an MG song to me because, the first time I heard it was on "...there and then" and I listened to that gig on loop for months (I copied it from the TV to a cassette and I always had a walkman on). The studio version never measured up to the version from Maine Road for me, to this day. Not just because of the drums but the pace of the studio version too. Talk Tonight I feel is an MG song for the same reason as Acquiesce and it's pretty much only Noel on the studio version. Half The World Away is bizarre because the first time I heard it was on The Masterplan and I couldn't tell who drummed on it at the time so, in 1998, it felt like a current song even if it was about 4 years old. Headshrinker definitely feels like an DM song. They were never that ferocious after DM.

I wrote on here years ago about a fictitious middle album between DM and MG which if Oasis were around today and b-sides weren’t really a thing looked a bit like the below because with the Whatever and Some Might Say singles there was almost an album between them.
Acquiesce Some Might Say Listen Up Talk Tonight Fade Away (It’s Good) To Be Free Headshrinker Cloudburst Half The World Away Whatever
But to answer your question they’re 100% DM era

Weird that Noel didnt ask Whitey to re-record the drums. Maybe because the track was already released... It's something that could have been done, since the drums were a big deal for Noel at that moment. It's funny because the SMS demo on the japanese single sounds more like MG than the released version. I have mixed feeling about all these songs. Acquiesce sounds more like MG, but Headshrinker more like DM. Talk Tonight more like MG, Half the World Away more like DM. Good to be free is clearly DM, but Whatever wouldn't feel out of place on MG. With new drums (imagine Whatever with whitey's drums )

Whatever is a good example but also Acquiesce, Some Might Say or It's good to be free. Headshrinker is too much of a stomper for Whitey though. I do think Tony did a good job with Some Might Say though but it could have been more developped.

I guess with a good remix with bass and drums pushed upfront, it could work. There's so many things they can do for future anniversary editions.

Headshrinker is a great tune and one of Oasis's very best songs and b.sides from the early days.

I’m going to cop out and say neither, as that’s how it felt at the time. I don’t think it is a cop out, Hate to sound like an old codger but each Oasis single seemed to arrive and make complete sense at the time. A track as great as Whatever made sense as a single, not on DM or MG. It seemed a little like how the Beatles put out Strawberry Fields / Penny Lane as a single and not on Peppers. Half the world away just added to the Noel’s genius B Side run.

I’m going to cop out and say neither, as that’s how it felt at the time. Remember the feeling. 4 new songs every 3 months. Never ending quality material, the hunt to find the single. The thrill going back home to play the new bsides for the first time. Good times. Neither is a valid point too, as the sound of those songs doesn't really belong to DM, and doesn't belong to MG either.

All of Oasis's 90s b'sides were great (not that their 2000s ones weren't except for those remixes).
