I don't listen to these piano versions of songs as they're a waste of time and it's always better to stick with the proper version. 'A waste of time'. They might just be an opportunity to see some songs through another lense, hearing them being played through beautiful instruments. I don't even understand the comparison with the actual version, I don't think the people making those covers have the ambition to replace the studio version, but anyway... Completely agreed, lubeck. Mind you, there's too many diary-ish posts which could be called "a waste of time" on this forum (you know what I mean).

The first song that came to mind as better than Songbird is Evil Eye. It's a bop. Should have been a single. Could've been the hit they needed.

Yeah, I forgot all about Evil Eye, mind you, I haven't listened to it in a very long time so that's probably why. I'm not sure why it was only released as a bonus track for the Japan release of BE though.

They didn't want to put out Lennony ballad and distance themselves from the Oasis sound.

Depends on who you ask ! It's not a free forum for some. Anyway back on topic. Songbird is really elevated by the production. It makes it unique. The demo is good, but it's rehash of a few Beatles song. That's what lacked on BE for Evil Eyer and other Liam's songs : they had good songs, and the production is overall pretty interesting, but they got lost in details, such as weird song structures. songbird is straight to the point, not plodding seconds. And that's what it make it the perfect Liam Gallagher song, like no other (or maybe Soul Love, which is my personal favorite)

Love a lot of his songs and he is definitely better than he realises he is at writing. But Songbird is far and away his best song. He captured something with that that he never has since. Unreal melody, great vocal. Just a superb song.

The Morning Son and Start Anew were north Liam's weren't they? Yeah he wrote those two. They aren't masterpieces by any means, but take out the "Oh oh oh, yeah yeah yeah" and release them 5 years later under Liam's name under Warner rather than Beady Eye and you've got two hits on your hands. That would be my top 3 - probably Morning Son, Songbird and Start Anew. He wrote some decent material as part of Beady Eye. He would have really benefitted from a songwriter alongside him to smooth the edges and help finish them off (Wigwam is essentially 3 unfinished songs) but there was a lot of potential in the right circumstances.

Songbird was an Oasis single. Nothing he will ever do will be more significant than that, unless he writes another song that becomes an Oasis single (this won't ever happen again).
I've All I Need is a BETTER song but Songbird surpasses it in many different ways.

Songbird has the populist appeal that no other Liam tune comes close to, mainly due to its light breezy effortless feel ("very much in keeping with its titular character" Alan Partridge would say).
Melodically sweet and simple, a heartfelt performance from Liam and actually one of the very very few songs from Oasis MkII nailed sonically without bludgeoning it to death with plodding rhythms.

Yip.
Boy With The Blues. Liam's greatest song to date.

The demo version > album version imo.
But to answer the question, I think Born on a Different Cloud, I'm Outta Time and Evil Eye are stronger tunes. Thank God we don't have to choose and we can just listen to all of these tunes.

Soldier On. it's been around 10 years I haven't listened to Songbird.
it's eerie as fuck and I love the keyboards, probably by Andy, with Gem on bass. Liam's vocals and lyrics
and The Choral made it happen
