Jose Mourinho has explained why he described himself as "the special one" when he was unveiled as Chelsea boss. His comments led to accusations of arrogance but Mourinho said he was only responding to the media's perception of him as an inexperienced manager.
"I was European champion on 24 May with Porto, I came to Chelsea on the 26th or the 27th and the media were doubting me," he told FHM magazine.
"I was stunned so I'm sorry if I seemed arrogant but I don't think I was."
He added: "From that point it was a big challenge because if I didn't succeed like I did in the first year these guys were all waiting for me."
Mourinho also expressed his sadness at the sacking of Adrian Mutu last season following the Romanian striker's positive test for cocaine.
"I was very sad for the boy - he was a good player," he said.
"He was not a bad lad so we felt very sorry but we felt if a club like Chelsea wanted to have a connection with the good things of football, we couldn't support the situation.
"We made the point for the world, but it was a sad moment."

I think he's a good guy. For all the arrogance/confidence, he can back it up. People talk about the money at chelsea, but he won the champs league with porto, not exactly the most minted team ever. I think he's a great manager.
