I’m a big fan of Stay Young, easily one of my favorites from the Be Here Now era. This song had a different mix for the end credits of the 1998 (or 1999 I’m not sure) movie ‘The Faculty’.
The first major difference you’ll notice is the length, it’s less than half as long as the original, which means a lot of the lyrics of the song aren’t on it, with that said it doesn’t sound like it cuts at times or anything.
Then the actual mixing of the song is very different, I’m not really a pro when it comes to music knowledge but to me it sounds like a lot of guitar tracks where either toned down or removed, the drums and vocals sound a bit cleaner to me at least but I might be mistaken on that part.
So for me at least I’d say I prefer the faculty mix, but I’m really curious to see what others think

Hearing this just makes me wish Noel had actually finished his Be Here Now version instead of only being arsed to do one track.

Hearing this just makes me wish Noel had actually finished his Be Here Now version instead of only being arsed to do one track. Yes but this was a bit ridiculous. It's been cut to 2:22. They cut a whole verse, cut everything from the second chorus to the end. They could have done a better job with this one. Making things shorter by cutting empty spaces, useless solos and such, sure. But not that. Even the skipping of a chorus on the HD version of the DYKWIM video is sacrilegious.

What is known about this version?
Why is there a different mix (as opposed to just an edit)? When was it done? Before or after Be Here Now? The mobie came out after BHN.. Who mixed it?

I heard this years ago and just listened to it again on YouTube. Drums sound clear and crisp, but Liam's voice sounds strangely over processed. The center channel lead guitar licks are more easier heard during the chorus since the wall of sound is tuned down. The wall of guitars is too turned down in this version and it sounds much more sterile. Listening to Owen's original mix/master compared to this one, basically his mix just needed better compression management and more pronounced drums like the Faculty mix. Better, less overcompression on the guitar soundwall would've allowed Noel's center channel licks during the chorus to shine like they do in the Faculty mix, because they are there in the original but you really have to listen through all the treble and simbilance.
