Jezza spotted that SB knocked out Whatever on Spotify.

Why are we taking a list with Wonderwall and DLBIA at the top so seriously to begin with?

For me that is a trickie, as unlike some ive never rated Whatever as an absolute knockout. The strings are a nice touch but I do find it a tad overrated.
Theyre not the same type of song obvs, but I feel in reaching the goal theyre aiming for, they score roughly the same marks.
So I’m going to opt for a left-field move and say Songbird. As it’s a Liam song, and after failing to do so with Little James it was a true surprise that he could write something with such an innocent lyrical charm yet remain melodic.

I don't understand why Wonderwall gets so much disdain, even from the fanbase. If it was a lazy song that only got big because of a little catchy gimmick, I'd understand, but no, Wonderwall is a very beautiful and well crafted song. And on the top of that, it still sounds unique after all these years. Can't think of many pop hits, of the past or these days, sounding anything close to Wonderwall.

Also to answer to the poll question, Whatever, of course. Songbird is a very nice song and my favourite off Heathen Chemistry but Whatever is one of the band's very finest moments.

Well, it's because songs like Live Forever, Slide Away, Some Might Say, Cast No Shadow, Half The World Away (anything off of The Masterplan really), Sad Song, and the rest of it actually mean something to us. They are about us. Doesn't matter that Wonderwall is a good pop song, because we base it on their discography alone.

Whatever for the win.

Same, it went down great on that first NGHFB tour. That's the song you want to be singing with everybody in the room.
Liam needs to write another Songbird like She Taught Me How To Fly is an updated The Girl In The Dirty Shirt.

Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger mean something to quite a a lot of us, too. Just because they're popular doesn't mean they're not still powerful, moving examples of Oasis at their peak.

Definitely Songbird for me, I've never been a big fan of Whatever it's ok but I've always preferred the b.sides from that single.

Totally agree with you and I've always loved those two songs. They're certainly two of Oasis's best ever singles and songs.

I deeply love all the songs you mentioned, all in my top 10/15, but Wonderwall was written at the same time, and played and recorded with the same spirit. The fact it became such a popular song doesn't change that fact at all
