I enjoyed Tony's book. Despite all those bullying by Noel, he seems a nice guy.

interested in his take on what he would have played on further oasis recordings ... like I think the evolution in drumming desperately needed to happen but I wonder what his perspective is

I honestly do think Alan white is a better drummer but had Tony stayed they would not have been held back in the slightest. Tony left Oasis because they didn't like him. He didn't fit into the group and that is equally important and totally justified. What is not OK is how they handled it. |

Yeah, he's a great punk drummer and there's NO way the first record would have sounded as good with any of the other drummers. Alan wouldn't have sounded right at all on Bring It On Down, Up in the Sky etc ... but I'm so glad he played on The Masterplan, Wonderwall, She's Electric etc, I also think Noel's sense of songwriting / arranging opened up when the drummer had more than one gear (even tho Tony was perfect for the gear he was in!)
edit: obv just what I think! v interested to hear his thoughts

No way Tony could have played the way Alan did on MG or BHN.
That said, his work on DM is fine, if that's really him and not Noel...

Ive said before that I personally think he was perfect for the stuff he was on, but there were certainly some later songs that he wouldn’t be able to handle, and his eventual departure was inevitable.
However like people have said here, the way he was informed by the manager rather than the band always seemed a tad cruel. A bit like how Pete Best got the boot from The Beatles.
Concerning his book, it did come across as something of a bitter, get-even book so I took it with a pinch of salt. Still, credit to him for praising Alan as a top drummer here, overall Tony seems a down to earth chap. Was great that he and Liam made up in 2016.

The lack of posts says it all. I tried to watch this, but kept fast forwarding ahead out of boredom. Dull interview with nothing particularly new. As soon as Cannon started asking the same old questions it became apparent this was not going to be truth bombs.

Just reading through the posts here and thought I would add some opinions
I believe that nobody could play the songs from definitely maybe like Tony McCaroll. Although Alan White, Zak Starkey and Chris Sharrock were all great drummers in their own right I just thought they didn’t play it like Tony.
Regarding Tony saying in the interview he could have played on WTSMG, I was under the impression Alan White wrote the drum parts for the songs on WTSMG and also helped Noel with the timing of some of the songs.
Without wanting to be disrespectful, I am no drummer, I’m sure Tony could play all the drum parts on WTSMG but whether he would have written them remains to be seen.

It was a nice recap of the whole beginning story.
What I would have loved is to hear what he did afterwards and is doing now. And interesting, if it is true, that he was at their last gig, no one has yet blamed him, The Curse of The McCarroll.  |

I was hoping for some more interesting questions and stories because Brian was there from the beginning and he knows the story, but it was a very good watch and a quick recap. I hope Bonehead is next so he can shed some light about the late 90's and his departure from the band.

Microdot and Tony are probably aware they can't say anything too challenging as a certain person has very deep pockets and could make their lives very uncomfortable in court. |
