Fact. I am a massive Smiths fan and believe Marr in his 20s was fantastic. Layers, unique style. And how he aka Morrissey wrote was perfection.

That said, I find his solo stuff so unlistenable. His voice stinks. Lyrics are dreadful. But worst of all, with the exception of a few songs, I don’t enjoy the songwriting.

It’s a bit like John Squire. Perfect in the Roses. Seahorses were dreadful.

The difference is Marr is held up and for some reason beyond criticism. The media love his new records. But I’m not buying it.

His last great work was Electronic’s debut.

I believe he is best when collaborating with strong co-writers who edit down his crappy stuff.

I’ll see myself out.

I also saw the PSBs and New Order on tour. It would have been obvious for Marr to do a guest appearance for Getting Away with It. He was in the same cities at the same time. But never happened. Makes one wonder why…

I couldn't name a single Johny Marr solo track-nor I suspect could about 99 percent of the population.While this isn't proof that it's crap it might be some kinda indication.

Whatever magic Squire posessed seemed to have been exhausted by the first Roses album and some quality non album tracks.'Second Coming' was garbage as was most of the Seahorses output.He also released an utterly forgetable solo album-hard to believe it was the same guy who co-wrote 'Waterfall' et all...

99% of music that people are talking about on this forum is overrated.

They were good when they were young and we could enjoy their music when we were young.

Thinking too much or taking any of indie music too serious will just fuck you up.

It is pop music, mostly created by men in their 20s inspired by life and nobody is near to be called genius.

So, it is just fun and you shouldn't expect much.

Plus, most of them were just in the right place at the right time. Just young guys making the best music they could.

Of course they are all fucking overrated, there is Johhny Marr in every street, if we talk about musical talent. Inspiring era and musical partners that he had luck to work with made him famous.

There is no reason why he should be making good solo stuff, like there is no reason why would Liam be a good songwriter.

False. How on earth could you even think that? His stuff stinks. Easy Money. Is awful. Spiral Cities is pretty good. But…..it’s a rip of Simply Minds from Summertime. A few songs sound like the smiths. And a bunch are just bad.
