Yeah I agree. I was mainly taking the piss with my first post, cos the playing is good, but Wonderwall is overplayed (again ahah) in the "pro" guitarist troop, to show their technics, and why the original is so basic etc. I mean, Wonderwall isn't really a "guitar" song, the acoustic only lasts for the intro and first verse, then you can barely hear it 😄 Mellotron is more prominent throughout.

That's it, it's the composition overall and how the acoustic guitar complements everything. The drums are amazing and that forlorn sounding mellotron really makes the song stand out as unique. Getting all technical and showing off with typical guitar virtuoso self-indulgence would have killed those elements and inevitably the song would have sank without a trace.

These guitarists are good, but they have no idea or conception or ear for what makes a great composition. Evidence that you can be a technically brilliant guitarist and stand on the amplifiers with flame throwers blasting off around you, or be a genuinely great one that knows how to implement it into the song as just one piece of the puzzle.
