Oasis really missed a trick not playing Roll It Over live.
Liam nails it, with very similar vocals to his 2000 iteration (perfect). It’s a shame Noel was personally struggling in the early 2000s, SOTSOG and HC aren’t bad with just a few b-side substitutions.
Yeah, but no…. Oasis missed a trick here.
Play it directly before or after Gas Panic live - what a smooth and cool and pertinent and salient transition that would be!

I think Oasis did miss an opportunity with Roll It Over, hell I always forget the songs exists. To me, this song is the albums Champagne Supernova and the only way I would've seen that song working is near the end of the set. If I was forced to put it on the middle, I would've replaced Stand By Me.
Roll With It-Roll It Over-Wonderwall works pretty well.

Oh definitely and Oasis should've played it live at some point during their 2000's tours. It's a shame that they never did but I'm glad Liam is giving it a go during his solo concerts.

I will be a contrarian. I voted no. Because it's a song that strains way too much on the leave me here part which is something that Liam struggled in the past. And on gas panic panic is on the... Was way too much for Liam to sing(at times using the echo effect was good, but at others it was just repeating the straining part making it more obvious).
Then repeating the same line on RIO it would be overkill. Great that he can do it nowadays, but unless it was on the early Standing on the Shoulder tour I wouldnt want to see it.

I’m not sure they missed a trick by not playing Roll It Over on the SOTSOG tour. I agree it may have been too much for Liam’s voice to sing it each night. Perhaps they could have played it sparingly on the tour or played in on TV shows and sessions ie BBC Radio 1 Maida Vale or French TV show Nulle Part Ailleurs both in Feb 2000.
I think the band missed a trick with a few other things around this time either recording the album or the tour:
Song selection on SOTSOG. Noel said in interviews at the time that he hadn’t really finished both PYMWYMI and ICSAL but still included them on the album. I’m not sure other comparable sized bands (Coldplay or U2) would ever do that! As much as Little James gets criticised, it had to be included as it was Liam’s first song and would inspire him to keep writing.
Should LAMB have been a b side?
Probably shouldn’t have released Sunday Morning Call as a single. WDIAGW was released as a single in America so they could have used that.
Full on should have been sung by Liam and considered for the album.
In January 2000 the band played a great session for BBC Radio 1 recorded at Maida Vale Studios, but surprisingly didn’t play Go Let It Out which was the single. They played RNR Star, Who Feels Love, Talk tonight, Sunday Morning Call and the Who cover My Generation. I would have taken SMC out and replaced it with GLIO as there were too many Noel sung songs. Regardless, it is a great session.
Odd that they never played my generation again until 2002.
In Spring 2000 the band appeared on American tv show David Letterman, surprisingly they played I can see a liar, which wasn’t a single, not sure why they didn’t play GLIO. Maybe they thought the American audience would connect with something heavier and more rock.

Totally. I say ‘yes’ though in the case that it’d be played the way it is on Liam’s solo shows, as the original key would’ve been a bit too tricky even on his best 2000 shows. Don’t know why when they took Champagne Supernova out the set for several months in 2000 they didn’t just replace it with this, it would’ve worked well!

The only "trick" they missed was not being more freugal with dropping the key for demanding Oasis songs. They should have started doing that in 1997. This would have saved Liam's voice imeasurably.
He would have only been able to nail Roll It Over in the original key during the Maide vale session. No hope of getting it at any point after that. Too high for too long.

Not for me. It's one of those songs that is better left in the "if only" category. There's a lot of other songs I wish they'd tried live ahead of this one. Still good to hear Liam give it a go tho  |

But play and sing it in a lower key at least a few times during the tour. Why not? The whole whole setlist on the SOTSOG tour was quite unsurprising and predictable. They should have played Full On too and add I Can See A Liar more often in the set. If Andy and Gem are that good players, surely they could have learned and played Roll It Over and other songs too.

Full on and I can see a liar were always tunes I liked alot then...and they still sound good now. OK 95 percent of the forum hates ICSAL but who cares! |
