I'm trying to ironically imagine some reactions (including controversy). For example let's pretend that: (What's the Story) Morning Glory came out yesterday and today we give our opinion on the album. What could we read in this forum or on social media in general? I tried to imagine this funny scenary:
"We start badly. What's the point of including the outro of one song in the outro of another? Mixing Wonderwall in Hello's intro was one of the worst ideas"
"Some might Say's outro lasts too long, and it's too repetitive"
"Wonderwall is really beautiful, but I don't think it can reach 1 million views on youtube in its first week"
"That piano in the intro of Don't Look Back in Anger is too reminiscent of John Lennon and I'm sick of it. Stop with these constant tributes to the Beatles! The song was fine even without that."
"Roll Whit It makes me dance but it remains a mediocre song, perhaps a little too much as a teenager, and in any case after 3 plays it has already tired me"
"Champagne supernova is a great song but there are too many solos in there"
"This record is a bomb. Fuck people who don't like it !!!"
"Morning Glory is a good song, it will certainly do very well live, but the second part is the copy and paste of the first part. Noel could have tried a little more"
"About Definitely Maybe? a good record ruined by the bad mix"
---------
What do you think? have fun imagining some reactions today, especially on the first 3 albums XD

Immediate flop.
Today's society and musical culture would doom Oasis from the very start.
Oasis occurred at the perfect time.... either Oasis made the 1990s, or the 1990s made Oasis.... but in 2022? No chance.

We discussed how bad some of HC was in 2002
The reaction was very mixed accross message boards
Before that sotsog, same
Before that well few people had the internet so… but there was the pro and against in school, and everyone discussed how shitty or great it was, although with fewer people
It’s always been there. Technological advancement also help being more critical. There was stuff you just didn’t hear in 94 that are obvious now with entry level gear.

Ironically about album criticism, it should create interaction and stimulate reflection on how times have changed in evaluating and perceiving a musical album.

I'm trying to create some interesting content instead of having to defend myself against attacks from users who just like to criticize the opinions and threads of others. Who does not like it could also ignore the Thread...but if this forum is only for killing us, tell me, so I think whether to turn myself into a devil or use this forum only to download Liam's gigs :-)

Imagine someone other than Beady making this type of thread.
The forum has sunk to new lows. Stealing my job, not having that.

Exactly. As most have said here, there’s nothing new about Oasis or Gallaghers of either persuasion dividing public opinion. Was true from day one and as I remember it, rock and roll criticism was pretty cut-throat and free-wheeling back then. Much tamer now actually, though social media adds a fresh layer of nasty idiocy.
Don’t personally find all reviews stupid. They have their place. At their best they can be insightful, even joyous to read when they get to the core of what you love. Sometimes they are funny, intentionally or otherwise. Often they are flummoxing. Or they prove to look silly later. But they’re certainly not meant to make you hate something you already like. They’re merely individual opinions just like we have here. And some people enjoy reading different ones.
Here’s my suggestion to you, EE. Drop the feeling that you need to stoically defend every single thing you believe in. Some people find a bit of healthy debate fun but if it causes you aggro, then just walk away after you post. Any forum is going to have some people whose ideas flagrantly annoy you, because that is what a community is. We all learn to get along anyway.
You have a voice here, which is just one voice, but it’s a passionate one who sees Liam in a deeply idealistic way, so it’s nice to have. No need for you to leave. Just say what you think and let others do the same. Laugh at them if you think they’re insanely wrong. Enjoy yourself.

Technological advancement also help being more critical. There was stuff you just didn’t hear in 94 that are obvious now with entry level gear. As you said in the mid 90s it was face to face discussion with (school) mates. The only public debate was in newspapers and music magazines, and if they didn't like Oasis they put the boot in. It was a different story in any pub on the weekend though, everyone loved Wonderwall and DLBIA and that was all that mattered. In the summer of '97 I remember discovering winamp and some leaked BHN mp3s. There was no way of sharing them with mates apart from having them come to my house to hear them on a PC with shitty speakers. The sound quality was rough and songs were OK, so we all hoped the final album would be much better...
