Well it isn't as ridiculous as arguing over that one man team Arsenal winning the league this season. arsenal more than likely won't win it.... not unless chelsea completely crumble and we'd need Henry fit and in form for, oh i don't know, every single game we play!! but don't tell me wigan have a better chance! and, if you know anything about probability: WIGAN DO INDEED HAVE AN EQUAL CHANCE OF WINNING THE LEAGUE THAN THE LIKE OF ARSENAL, UTD et al.
I don't think they will (for the last effin time) but, for the love of god, they are second...what if they do take points off the "big teams"...again, almost did so vs. Chelsea...that's what makes the Prem exciting, every match is different and unpredictable
there are races going on all the time in the Prem:
-Title Race
-CL Race
-Uefa Cup spots
-Relegation Battle
where do Wigan fall? we don't know...but i beilieve CL/Uefa..they will def surivive considering 40pts ensures safety normally, they have 25pts already
and, FeckArse, lets do a little bit more math
Wigan have 25 points after 11 games, on this form,
11 x 3.45 = 38 games
25 x 3.45 = 86 points (roughly)
so if Wigan keep this up, then sure they can win the league...but i too doubt that they will...but you cant say for sure until they start dropping points

It is our first good result in a long time and have to build on it.
+ I'd rather see Wigan win the league this season than United.

As a gooner I obviously wanted Man Utd to win this, anything that makes more of a race of the Premiership can only be a good thing. However as soon as the game was over I had a distinct feeling of self-loathing for wanting Utd to win! At the end of the day I'm glad they won, but don't kid yourselves - SPENT FORCE.  |

my point is that it is not in the slightest way conceivable for Wigan to continue their form throughout the season. [just talk to any Charlton fan, they'll tell you a thing or two about early season form for a team punching above its weight]
Wigan, while having been extremely impressive (and long may it continue) are going to struggle at stages. Notably their next run of 5 games consist of Arsenal, Tottenham, Man U, Liverpool & Chelsea.
Compare this to the run they've had in which they've only been facing out of form teams (bar Bolton) - the likes of WBA, Sunderland, Everton, Portsmouth, Fulham...etc. It's impressive, but they can't and won't keep this up.
My point, I reiterate, is simply that Wigan will not win the league. And you're arguing with me over this. I've never said they don't have an outside chance of a CL spot (i'd be very surprised if they did mind you), and I know you're not saying that they will win the league. But you're considering them as realistic contenders.
They don't have the quality of players to either a) maintain their form consistently over the next 27 games or b) get enough results off the big teams. Which is what you need to be champions.
Arsenal and Man United certainly face an uphill battle to win the league, BUT don't come out with the crap that Wigan have the same chance of winning as they do. Thats dumb bullshit.
Come May, I guarantee, guarantee (how many times can i use the one word in the same post??), that Wigan will not hold the Premiership Trophy aloft.
I'm glad they're doing well. But if you know anything about anything, you'll know they have no chance whatsoever of winning the league.
For fucks sake, i'm not posting on this argument anymore, its pissing me off

omfg the arrogance doesnt stop first off, just cos Wigan came up doesnt automatically mean they are crap...they are second for a reason...will that last? probably not...but it's foolish to laugh at them in the form they are in... Arsenal and Utd have a game in hand, so at best the 2 teams are 8 and 7 pts respectivly out of first...i'll take that over the 14pts (11 if win the game in hand) we were behind last weekend... Also, Chelsea are REALLY struggling...it really depends how they respond...Arsenal play Chelsea in December (the 18th...i begin Winter Break then)...if we win that, the gap could be very very small....
