The Hindu Times is so terribly average.
Generic Oasis, and a poor man’s Roll With It. Sloppy Liam vocals on the recording. Average. 6/10.
Gets wayyy too much love on this forum. Even the live version - which everyone raves about - isn’t that great.
The Hindu Times. The very definition of average.

Now THT Demo…. that’s actually mega. Noel was onto summat before he fucked it up for whatever reason.

I’ll be brave and say that the album version, despite the shit vocals, is miles better than the demo. It’s faster, which it should be, and the lyrics fit Liam more.

Hindu Times is great as it is. An excellent comeback single on its time. I like the video too. And I remember my old man greatly enjoying the song, when it came on the radio as he was driving.

The production of the song is as bland as the rest of HC. The demo version had more teeth with shit lyrics. I agree with the speed thing megyesitomate but even at that speed it's so bland. HC had great tunes but it's dull to listen to.

Despite the name of the thread it looks like people like The Hindu Times. It's got its problems, but it's a good song overall.

Demo is immense, even in the rough. Album version is fine, but nothing I would ever go back to much. But get some Liam vocals and Stent production on that demo, with a sexy bassline and maybe some keys to dress it up a bit, and you'd have one of the best Oasis bangers going. One of the few things in the 00's that could've touched the biblical nature of their 90's stuff.

The first time I hear it in 2001, while the band were playing the 10 Years of Noise and Confusión tour, got me really hype. I buy the Barrowlands bootleg that includes the Apollo version of The Hindu Times...and it was mega...that sampler (the demo sampler) fit perfect with the live band. Alan usin the hihat in the verses...the keyboard part at the end of every chorus...really powerful.
Then the studio version it was a dissapointment...sounds good but...mmm Noel changed the sampler and use other from his drum machine...and force all the guitars to follow that...and we get that studio version.
Whatever...I like The Hindu Times...but preffer the 2001 live versions!

The Hindu Times is great as is the most of Heathen Chemistry. It's got a collection of slightly left field songs. Not one I instantly listen to but it's a nice little album..just tend to hear the odd tune and think...ahh it's from HC! Only thing that super fucked me off was including a cover as as main track...WTF!!!

I think that some of the songs from the album do sound better live than on the album but I've always preferred the album version of Stop Crying Your Heart Out though.
