My team of the tournament:
Donnarumma Mahele Maguire Chiellini Shaw Damsgaard Pedri Jorginho Forsberg Sterling Kane
Shoutout to Chiesa, Rice, Kjaer, Schick and Spinazzola too
Overall it was the most enjoyable Euros in a while, all hard-fought, balanced, thrilling games besides UK v Ukraina and some good football played even by less talented sides Could've done with better performances from France and Germany but that's the only complaint really I think the 24 teams expansion worked very well, not sure it'd work with 32 but it may be worth a try
As for yesterday's game, we were surprised by the 3 at the back clearly, the goal was a shocker and then you had a couple of dangerous counter attacks basically running the same action, but then as predicted you left us the midfield and we took control, albeit without creating too many chances Should've tried to go for the dagger after the equaliser, but fair play to England they defended well and clearly both teams didn't want to risk losing it Thought Southgate choices regarding substitutions and penalties were puzzling, while Mancini pulled all the right strings What a job he's done, taking this team at its lowest and bringing it to the top of Europe, all with arguably no attacking threat for this level apart from Chiesa, need a couple of strikers to have a breakout season cause that's all this team is missing now

Just hope that racists will not make any troubles. And of course they do. They probably remember when their Team was all white and England was winning all these trophies and never shit the bed on penalties. Good times

Incredible tournament from him, zero goals conceded from open play and his recoveries were unreal from the first game to the last. Mourinho had him as player of the tournament, full stop.

Walker was great especially defensively but Mahele deserves it imo, played out of position and killed it every game, plus had one of the plays of the tournament with his assist to Dolberg vs Czech Republic

He was last man standing for them on numerous occasions, Walker had quality like Maguire and Stones alongside him. There’s that, in addition to the fact Walker as a human being is a total fud.

I think we've talked way too little about Sweden following Italy's win. In November of 2017, Italy was at their lowest ever point. Missing the World Cup for the first time since 1958, after losing 1-0 on aggregate against the mighty Swedes. I guess you could say that they haven't set a foot wrong since, and perhaps this wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for that crushing defeat that forced them to reinvent themselves. What I'm really trying to say is that, well, it's really our trophy. And nice seeing Forsberg in that team defmaybe00!

Stones also deserves a massive amount of praise. Only English defender to not concede a goal in five consecutive international tournament games in history. And that after a genuinely stunning season at City. Doesn't get the praise he deserves, partly because people give Ruben Dias too much credit for "making Stones good again" at City, when he had already started playing quality again with Ake before Ruben came to England.

Stones was fantastic but I think the praise given to Ruben is deserved, mainly for the fact that Stones has world class abilities but he's only at the top of his game when he has a defensive leader next to him That's what Dias is at City and what Maguire is with England Kinda like Bonucci really, he looks like a monster next to Chiellini but struggles when he has to be the staple of the defense

Still haven't forgiven you for that Never thought I'd see us missing a world cup, but in hindsight obviously a massive change was needed and Mancini revealed himself as the perfect man for that, trying to play good football since day one, calling up some of the youngsters and getting a lot of players involved throughout the whole process As for Forsberg, teams as experienced and well-organised as Sweden is just desperately need someone to break the mould and be creative and he was able to provide that constantly, even in that Ukraine game you always thought something could happen when he had the ball I like Isak too, kid has a bright future in front of him

But yeah, offensively the future looks bright. Him, Isak, Kulusevski, potentially Anthony Elanga at Man United pretty soon as well. As for the rest of the midfield and defense though, it could be rough times ahead.

Yeah attack is in good hands definitely, but it seems you're struggling getting new life into other roles, it's as if I've been seeing the likes of Larsson and Lustig ever since I've started watching football Lindelof and Augustinsson still have at least a couple of tournaments in them though, and I really like Svanberg in midfield, a shame he got injured cause he was coming off a very good season in Serie A

So fucking predictable innit. Boris Johnson's England. Any excuse and last night's penalty takers lit the touch paper for these scum. The thing about England is that it's not just your National Front fascists who are the problem, it's your fascist-adjacent middle-class who are always careful to frame themselves as the sensible, grown-up voice in the room. I've seen some of their ilk seriously suggesting that Southgate put black players on the later penalties so they could be the heroes and he could make a political statement. It is genuinely insane the extent of older people in this country who see the existence of black people as ideological.

It is genuinely insane the extent of older people in this country who see the existence of black people as ideological. Totally agree. It's not just the knuckle dragging beer bellied neanderthals, it's your GB News followers and, lets be honest, more mainstream news outlets that are passive (BBC). Football rivalries and all that, I thought it would be all imagining Italy winning and being happy with that but reality chokes. The minute Rashford missed his penalty, I had my head in my hands knowing what was going to come. The fact it is even worse than I imagined makes today especially despairing. Of course, the likes of Johnson and co who facilitate this through their dog whistle statements will never be scrutinised by the media. A fish rots from the head, and any criticism of Johnson will result in being sacked from the BBC - we're really creeping into deep fascist state territory here.

If Lustig retires we only have Krafth there and that's not great for the future. We'll see about Svanberg and Cajuste(just signed for Rennes), hopefully one or both proves to be the real deal.

My social media posts in chronological order from yesterday.
ITALY 🇮🇹 vs. ENGLAND 🏴 EURO 2020 FINAL IT’S COMING HOME
—
TWO MINUTES INTO THE MATCH:
ENGLAND 1-0 ITALY. ITS COMING HOME 🏴
— Heading to penalties…. of course. 😬
Come on, England!! 🏴 __
Penalty heartbreak once more… like 1990, 1996, 1998, 2004, 2006, and 2012, England exit out on penalties. It didn’t come home in the end, but I’m proud of the lads. Proper gutted, though. Qatar 2022 - It’s coming home.
—
Hold your head high, Saka. You had an excellent Euros, and a hundred more caps to earn over your bright future. I am gutted for the lad, though.
—
It could have been all songs in the street. It was nearly complete. It was nearly so sweet… 55 Years of hurt. 😣
