Curious to see the forums general opinion on this one, as it's a question I've often struggled with myself. On the one hand, they're two classic, radio-friendly Oasis tracks that would have for sure made the album a lot more palatable to both the general audience and to the radio stations/MTV. On the other hand, Stay Young can sometimes come off a bit Disney, and Going Nowhere doesn't seem to fit the larger-than-life sound of the record, despite being a well-written tune.
Should they have made it? If so, which songs would they replace? What should the BHN tracklist have been?

Absolutely believe Stay Young should have been on there. That's a fierce overblown tune that for me would fit right in. I'd swap it for Magic Pie. Although that song has grown on me a bit over the years, never was really up there imo.
Going Nowhere is a beautiful tune that evokes a bit of melancholy emotion (not my standard groove) for me, but I think it sits just fine as B side.

'Going Nowhere' is a little gem and thoroughly deserved it's place on The Masterplan.
Interestingly Noel name checked the song on a theoretical tracklist for Oasis album number 2 but it (obviously) didn't make the cut and was held back from being recorded as a b-side (like 'Stand by Me', 'Don't Go Away', 'All Around the World', 'My Sister Lover' and possibly others) but for whatever reason it wasn't demoed for Oasis album number 3 or recorded along with the other b-sides to the album. I believe it only resurfaced because Noel was asked to do a song for a film soundtrack (in 97) and then ultimately decided to throw out as a b-side first. Seems strange to me.
Anyway, the song is definitely one of the stronger songs of the Be Here Now period so I'd have personally put it on the album. If 'Don't Go Away' can fit I don't think this one is too much of a stretch.
'Stay Young' doesn't do it for me at all. Obviously it's not helped by the production but I really struggle to hear a lot of the chord changes. It just sounds like aimless muddy guitar noise + weak, overly indulgent lead guitar work Noel + at best meh drums. The drum fill intro with the jingly sound effect into the Oasis-parody lead guitar feels really cheesy. And the vocal melody (the best bit of the song) for whatever reason really rubs me up the wrong way. I honestly find it really grating to listen to. Especially the really drawn out "One way out is..."/"From those who'll hand.." bits. I think half the reason the song is as successful as it is is due to the lyrics of the chorus, which to me have no real effect on my judgement of the song.
There's lots I'd change to the album but in terms of a tracklist I'd swap out 'The Girl In the Dirty Shirt' and the 'AATW (Reprise)' with 'Going Nowhere'.

Stay Young should definitely have been on Be Here Now but Going Nowhere no as it wouldn't have fitted on an album like that. But Stay Young definitely would have fitted perfectly.

Stay Young alone proving the most popular option, which I might have expected. I do think Going Nowhere is the better song overall, though - give it Liam vocals and I can imagine it coming in after The Girl in the Dirty Shirt for a moment of peace for your ears after the onslaught of the first five tracks. I still can't decide what my tracklist for the album would be, to be honest.

Kind of go along with the opinion that Stay Young was tailored made for the album. And although the album's not conceptual in any way, Going Nowhere's reflective and subdued lyrics do jar a bit with the more ostentatious style of the album.
Going Nowhere the preferable song for me, it's a great tune and would have fitted perfectly on a Noel solo album if he had decided to write one at that period.
I love the Burt Bacharach influence, which when utilised by Noel (this one, Half The World Away, A Dream Is All I Need To Get By), has always been far more rewarding than the usual stock of 60/70s old man British rock acts.

I think that Going Nowhere would have perhaps fitted on an album like Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants maybe instead of Put Yer Money Where Your Mouth Is or I Can See A Liar. But the only trouble is there would be three Noel sung songs on it (no effence to Noel of course) but maybe the album would have been better without the songs which I've mentioned.

I don't care if it sounds too similar to I hope I think I know, they're both amazing songs and both belong on the album.
You can have sounds that sound similar on an album, I never understood the reasoning for binning one off for that.

Stay Young as the b-side to DYKWIM is perfection.
I'd (finally) put Sister Lover as the third track. just like on Mustique demos.
