Oh yeah it's a stone cold classic and I think the best ever selling #2 in UK History (counting streams), but it's still quite crazy that a band with 8 number 1s has its most popular tune, which also happens to be a massive global hit, in a song that peaked at number 2 |

I wonder if it'll be Noel's 12th number one album. Pretty amazing when you think about it. If Oasis' number 2 singles had been number 1, they would have had 14 number 1 singles instead of 8. If my Auntie had bollocks she would be my Uncle. If Jesus had a crisp packet on his head..... |

Oasis SHOULD have had more than 8 #1s. Crazy Frog and Candle In The Wind came out of nowhere and were radio beasts that blocked SCYHO and SBM from becoming #1s despite huge first week sale numbers. Oasis could have moved Roll With It away from Blur putting Country House up the same day, it would have been an easy #1 another week that year but the war was being waged and it probably did Oasis more good in the long run to be part of the chart battle and coming up second then if they moved it because of the immense PR surrounding it. Oasis later botched and bumbled the release of The Shock of the Lightning. It had its radio premier on August 15 but it didn't come out for purchase on iTunes or CD until...................September 29. That is 6 weeks!!! It was bootlegged from hell and back during that time. It would have charted a lot higher, likely #1 if it dropped the last week of August 2008. So that is 4 more potential #1s. Crazy Frog was summer of 2005 IIRC. Not sure what the big summer hit of 2002 was to stop SCYHO. Will Young/Pop Idol maybe? |
