Listen, 95% of todays music is "background music" anyway, you are doing something else and listening an album, music is nice most of the time, but you forget everything about it soon. Even with some great bands today you don't know when one song started and another one finished. Nobody is sitting in dark room anymore and listen something like The Dark Side of the Moon and enjoy every note. So, give me Gallaghers song any day, it's not Slide Away but I prefer Noel's and Liam's 7/10 songs more than 7/10 music from other artist. And most music today that we call good is 7/10. So, keeps working Gallaghers, we need you. huh? this is an awful take, especially the part generalizing 95% of music fans. Many who are very rabid for any morsel of something new, as evidenced by this forum and many others like it for other bands/artists. If that's the way you listen to music fine, but some of us enjoy it at a very deep level and take a lot of inspiration from it. Also I'm gonna guess there are still plenty of people listening to DSOTM in a dark room, and not all of them are old. Just look at all the kids who got into Oasis recently. FFS what a terrible post.

I bet you're fun at parties... There's no "capitalizing" anywhere. "We're gonna get there in the end" is certainly a fitting message for the time but he's not selling it anywhere so I don't see how he would be trying to capitalize on it. He wrote a song that was perfect for the situation, maybe last year, maybe 20 years ago, no one but him knows. As for the best of, he's doing 3 things: 1- He's participating in RSD as he often does 2- He's putting a bookmark on 10 years of NGHFB 3- He's releasing something that he doesn't need to tour, which is a smart move given the situation. And how do you make fans buy a best of? You throw in 1 or 2 new songs (We know Noel has tons of songs he can do that with) and/or make it special and/or limited and/or exclusive. So that's pretty much all it is. I bet you are one of those who try to sound smart but is not, at all... 1. yeah, he is participating in RSD, and? 2. we didn't know that, clever boy 3. How do you make fans buy a best of? I bet you've got "Stop the clocks" inside you underpants drawer 1. Well you were asking if he was trying to capitalize on the covid zeitgeist. I'm saying that I don't think he is and telling you why. 2. I am very clever, smart and funny too! 3. I didn't buy Stop The Clocks because it had nothing I didn't already own, hence my point about best ofs. Cheers!

Noel by numbers, which is still pretty damn good. 7/10 on first listen, not the best of his post-WBTM output but up there.
Another good choice for a non-album release too - I'm excited to hear what he's up to with the next record, but this song stands on its own and won't feel out of place on a best of.

So I love the song, very beautiful, but does anyone else get a messy impression regarding the sound of it? It's like every instrument is buried under everything else, a white noise of sorts. A lack of clarity.

Not breaking any new ground, but it's a fine song and that's okay, especially after the previous batch which were very hit or miss.
My only wish for it is that he ditched the background church singers. It's not working for his style.

Love the verses . The chorus could have been much better though. Feels like If I had a gun light. 7.5 out of 10. Nice little tune. Not sure single material.

Anybody got an idea of who the song might be about? I'm surprised no one has asked yet (well, not very surprised given the overall level of journalism these days), not that I think he'd give anything away but I'd like to hear what it's about from him

I think it might be about Amy Winehouse. Maybe that's ridiculous, I don't know the extent of their friendship.
NVM, I remembering history wrong. Noel trashed her a lot.

He said he had not finished it until recently tho, that may include lyrics, which makes it virtually impossible to understand if it's about anyone in particular and who it is As I said, I'm quite sure he wouldn't answer, but it'd be nice to see someone ask about the actual tune for once

I read somewhere the song is about the death of a friend without being able to say goodbye properly. Wouldn't be surprised if someone passed in the last year and he couldn't attend their funeral due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Anyway, I think it's a solid song. Maybe a bit uninspired with the lyrics, but I like it better than most of his EP stuff.

I interpreted it to be about suicide, immediately made me wonder if Caroline Flack was friends with Sara as the obvious female suicide of the last year and the lyric about tricks to get you down, but probably way off and best that kind of thing remains a mystery.

Nice song. Noel could write these type of songs in his sleep. Effortless. This. Nothing groundbreaking, but a lovely tune!

These polls look quite the same for each new Gallagher solo release. Glad that things are staying consistently favorable.

I'm assuming it's about someone who's died but if that's right the "I'm worn out" lyric is weird and "you chose to drift away" is... not pleasant at all. Ultimately another meh song that's not bad but that I can't imagine I'll have listened to more than 10 times by the time I die.

Could the song be about HFB1 Noel talking to latest Oasis Noel? Mmm...

It gets 7/10 from me. Nice to hear him steal from Glorious.
But Noel gets 8/10 for mentioning Hey Now and Cast No Shadow.
And he gets 9/10 for not delivering more of the elevator music he has been doing since 2017. This could have been a bonus track on Chasing Yesterday.

This poll results are as perfect as a Standard Normal Table as you’re going to get.
Not entirely sure what to make as the analysis of this though.... anyone?

I think its much better than the majority of Chasing Yesterday. Barring Riverman, While The Song Remains The Same, Dying of the Light and possibly Ballad of Mighty I, this is far better than the other tracks.
