Hot take: Swallowed in the Sea is the best Coldplay song. Everything since is trying-on-jeans at Abercrombie music Jk. But really having problems getting into post X&Y music

Trouble, Amsterdam and Clocks come to mind if I had to choose their best song.

Hot take: Swallowed in the Sea is the best Coldplay song. Everything since is trying-on-jeans at Abercrombie music Jk. But really having problems getting into post X&Y music For me that song was one of the corniest/weakest songs on X&Y. Chris had already written so many great love songs and ballads. What is the point of this one? And eventually many others that tread on similar turf but offer up weaker tunes. Just goes to show variety is the spice of life.

I do find it incredible that Coldplay is doubling down on this whole Spheres/Space/Moon music concept. It was their worst reviewed album. It sold the fewest physical copies of their career and is also their lowest streamed album. I’d have moved on from this particular era. Coldplay doesn’t need Max Martin or any outside guest appearances. This is a band that has always been in their peak form when it’s the 4 of them making music.

For me, the Viva la Vida album in 2008 was their absolute peak.
I listened the shit out of that album in that period.

As uninspiring as anything they've done in recent years. Generic to the extreme lyrics, overproduced synthetic production, and finally add some cut and paste 'la la la/whoa whoa whoa' crowd baiting nonsense in for good measure and you've got yourself a tune for an 'inspiring' Children In Need montage of people doing fun runs.
Chris Martin has totally lost himself up his Hollywood jet setting arse. Meanwhile, the 'other three' don't seem interested in being serious musicians and haven't been for a long time.
Their time as a chart topping act is at an end, this won't do the rounds in either the album or singles charts, so I don't see the point of it. Unless they opt for a collaboration with the latest chart topper, which is riding on the coattails of others successes at this point, they're not going to have another smash hit ever again.
They had it once but it's gone forever now, there's absolutely no trace of any of that now.

The 2010s should have been their experimental phase post-VLV. You hear this and can tell they can't be bothered to record anymore.
And what is more odd is when they do try in the studio like with Everyday Life, Coloratura - it is always something wonderful. What a strange but fascinating band.

They sound like they don't care anymore.

Artwork is way way better than that pile of shit they used for Spheres. That looked like amateur hour. This has a Sigur Ros feel from their last album.

For me, the more fluorescent the album's color palette, the harder a Coldplay album sucks.
So I'm expecting "weekend of hookers and blow" levels of suck with Moon Music.

I’m not expecting much, maybe 2-3 solid tracks like how their career has been the last decade. I always pray for more band tracks and less guests. They don’t need them. Feels desperate whenever they do them.

Everything's not lost. Ghost Stories is their best "recent" album. It has such a great evening/nighttime vibe to it. Very calming.

Feels like they're winding down into the end of their career now, which I don't mind as they've been one of the most consistently successful and varied pop-rock outfits of all time. I still love their more recent albums like "Ghost Stories" and "Everyday Life", and the other two mega-sales pop ones certainly have their moments as well. I'm expecting little from the new album, but demanding little from it as well; Coldplay made me love music and gave me my favourite album of all time, and they seem like decent people in a sea of dickheads.
Happy to pick out a few nice tunes and go back to Viva la Vida at this point.

I can’t wait for Moon Music and Supernova to both be 30 second interludes on a 10 track album.

I thought Everyday Life was their best one since Viva La Vida, for the 'full band' tracks. Extremely flawed, half of it sounds like a Chris Martin solo record but musically it definitely felt like real Coldplay for the fully fledged songs. Church, Trouble In Town, Arabesque, Orphans, bonus track Flags too.... there's the core of a very good album. Devoid of chart baiting stunts and personnel, it strips it back to what they really are without the desire to be so commercial. Max Martin is simply not as good a songwriter as Chris Martin, and the only reason he is there is to dumb down their songs and appeal to the audience that listens to chart nonsense. I know I sound like an old man, but I'd have had this opinion back in 2008 when Max Martin was still shovelling shite into the mainstream.

Why does Chris even need him? Coldplay was already a mega successful act long before Max met Chris. Chris has a real talent for writing his own “hit” songs. He’s got plenty of global hits prior to this newest era of the last 10 years or so. It’s a shame he feels like he needs to be extremely safe and appeal to all. I’ve seen U2 fall into this trap post 2004. They keep chasing it when the reviews/sales keep declining. Thats just part of the cycle. It happens to all acts. Nobody is #1 forever. Nobody is liked by everybody.

Been dipping in and out of this but yes, there's a reason why they're the only band to headline this thing so many times. Still unbeatable in that sense. Reminds me of the real Coldplay, especially with a brilliant curveball with Arabesque and interesting rendition of Violet Hill there too.

What is the point of the song “Humankind”? They already had a better version of that and it’s called “Hurts Like Heaven”.

What is the point of the song “Humankind”? They already had a better version of that and it’s called “Hurts Like Heaven”. It was never gonna be a perfect setlist. Indeed, Humankind would have been one of the few I wouldn't have had (along with that Chainsmokers song and their new single). Given that Arabesque made a surprising appearance, it would have been great to find a place for Orphans. That's a wonderful tune, could have given it the exposure it deserved last night, especially given how outstanding they played last night.

Shocked it was never a bigger hit. It has plenty of time before Covid came along.
