New album, new thread. Nice and tidy. “Higher Power” drops May 7th. Clues popping up everywhere it seems. Music of the Spheres recently trademarked and copyrighted. alienradio.fm/

Looks like Jon Hopkins might be involved! The title "Alien Radio" can also be seen on a board from 2009, which now makes four Mylo Xyloto connections; a futuristic theme, some of the same producers, and songs from that era. We also know there's a song called UFO that the band have written recently, and of course a song with the same title exists on Mylo. We might also be getting the Silver Bird version of Us Against the World, but I think that'll be more likely be as a b-side or just a throwaway release than as part of Music of the Spheres.

“Choose Scotland for your next launch.............................................” Intrigued by this, just the audio files in general. I wonder whether it's cryptic clues or just random audio files sourced from a library that we shouldn't look too much into? I know for a fact that Scottish lady is talking about the development of a spaceport in barren Sutherland right at the tip of Scotland (basically where my mum and dad come from and near Durness where John Lennon holidayed as a kid). Given the unbelievable night skies you see that far north, it would be relevant for some sort of 'launch' gig commenced in the Highlands which was streamed as a live gig on YouTube (where up there you will see unbelievable night skies)! I can only wish! But given Jon Hopkins possible involvement noted by The Escapist, and Alien Radio being in gestation since the immediate aftermath of VLV, it would be interesting if this marks a return to their more ambitious and artistic phase, framed in modern pop sensibilities (can't believe I'm saying that as it makes VLV sound so old now). Everyday Life hinted at a return to that art pop stylings.

Band confirmed it. Higher Power single drops next Friday. pitchfork.com/news/coldplay-releasing-new-song-higher-power-next-week/Interesting they have Max Martin producing this song (and most likely the album). He is best known for writing/producing all those boy band anthems in the 90s for Backstreet Boys, N SYNC as well as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Pink, Avril Lavigne, Katy Petty, Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift. I guess this album is gonna lean mega pop.

Looks like the band is wearing their Mylo gear in some of these early promo photos.

Coldplay is good friends with Max and I think he'll give them space to work their magic but still fine tune some things to get that pop flair (a la what they did with Avicii). I am disappointed they're not working with a non-top 40 producer or carrying on what they did with EL or even going the self-produced route. The band would sound better that way, imo, but we'll see what happens. If it's AHFOD II, I'll be pissed though.

The bright moments of MX are extremely bright.

Apparently on their store page it's being marketed as an album but listed as just the song only - what gives?

I like that. Give a little something to get people excited now and then you have a basis to work from in terms of an album and a world tour when things start to open again that people can get excited for. CHVRCHES is another group doing something similar, and Billie Eilish is also doing something similar.

It’s interesting because Chris said when Everyday Life came out that the band isn’t really into the idea of touring the world anymore because of the carbon footprint they created by hosting such events. Said they would pause on that front until they found a solution. I doubt they solved that problem.

Sounds like a nice little 80s pop song, eons better than Something Just Like Shit.

I just hope if they go in an 80's dance direction, they fully commit. I've never enjoyed how AHFOD was supposed to be a dance-flavoured album, but only half the tunes sounded like that. More songs like Birds and Adventure of a Lifetime, less songs like Fun and Amazing Day, and that album improves dramatically. Go full on, lads!

I was not aware to the demo for “Adventures of a Lifetime” had leaked. Never a huge fan of it. I do find this version very very interesting.

It brings out the prowess that Jonny, Guy, and Will each have, and Chris adds a little acoustic melodic flair to it sometimes, like on AOAL.

Yeah, this is pretty weak. Some pretty guitars and groove, and the chorus is okay, but overall bland. Feels like it was made to appease Parlophone after Everyday Life. By far and away their worst lead single. Yeah they've had some very poppy/radiophonic stuff but even their most commercial offers in later years (A Sky Full Of Stars, Princess Of China, Paradise, Adventure Of A Lifetime etc) were at least catchy tunes, this is just...meh There's nothing about it that sticks or makes you want to go back to it
