In my humble opinion Oasis as a band never got Morning Glory right live. A lot of their songs they improved upon live - Be here now (gmex), It's good to be free (sitting here in silence on my own) and Acquiesce (maine road) - but there is no live version of Morning Glory that tops or equals the studio version - Toronto 2001 and v fest come close to equaling however.

I think every version of Morning Glory played before 2004 is a huge let down, but every version played from that year is better than the original from the album.

Strange that because I was watching a video of them playing it in 2009 and thought exactly the same - a poor counterpart to the studio version.
Liam's vocals aren't great (pulling away from the mic too much in that era which was depressing) but even the guitar riff at the start sounds so tame compared to the siren of the album version.

Personally I'm more into glory days version when huge (huge but kinda boring) solo was hidden while cool rhythm section guitars made song more interesting comparing with later versions. Or was it just different solo? 'Cause I always thought '90s MG' starts with two rhythm sections by Noel and Bonehead playing together. The other thing why I prefer 90s version is... second bridge solo - I think it's over the top. Like it makes lyrics 'You need a little time to wake up!' shriller and more sensible...

The Roskilde, Denmark performance is about as close to the album version as they ever got. Liam singing the Wells included.
Edit: I'm of course talking about the 1995 pre-MG release performance and not the 2009 Roskilde show.

I really like the V Festival 2005 version that OP mentioned. To me in the later years they started playing it a lot heavier than they did in the 90s which I prefer. The song is heavy in general but the drums and guitars really went up a notch in the mid-2000s on it. Also sometimes the beginning of the version played in the 90s would flounder/take a while to really get going with Noel having to do all the lifting. This song is a great example for any Gem Archer fans of the positive contribution he had to the band.

I don't know man, the different intro that Noel played from 95-97 fits better in my opinion, especially when Noel answers Liam with the "well." The Long Island performance in late '96 just hits different, might be my favorite version of Morning Glory.

Morning Glory at V2005 was mega. I was lucky enough to be there and that was the undoubted highlight,
It was at that moment when it moved from being just another good song from their golden period to being one of their iconic songs for me

The whole gig is awesome too, 10/10 worth watching.

Noel never played the intro bit to start with and later on I never really liked Liam's voice in it, even on his good nights. When he sang it at Glastonbury at the start of his solo career and nailed the verses it was when I knew he was back.

Well I've always liked the live version of Morning Glory but I've always preferred the live versions from 2000 onwards.

I never liked Noel's acoustic live version of the song mainly because I don't think that it's a song which should be played acoustically.
