Alright wtf happened to Guigsy, i don't wanna hear the typical "oh he just wants to leave Oasis in the past". Bullshit. People who have met Guigs have said that he straight up refuses to speak on oasis. So what happened to Paul" "Guigsy" McGuigan??

He doesn’t like fame.
Good thing he now has a thread devoted to him.

He left his years of being in Oasis behind and carried on with his own life without fame, so let it be. We should respect his wish.

It honestly fits with what we're told about him. Noel said that being in Oasis was last on his top 5. He experienced the band at its height and didn't want to do it anymore. So yeah, he disappeared. He managed to do a pretty good job at that too so good for him.

Do you think he was set for life when he left?
I would assume he wouldn't get much from album royalties as a (temp) bass player, but perhaps pocketed a million or two from the massive concerts?

A temp? What are you talking about? Officially he played bass on the first 4 Oasis album (including The Masterplan). I know unofficially that's not quite true but still he's getting royalties for the most massive Oasis records and some of the most selling records in England. I think he's good.

I think that he made his money and then when he had enough of being in Oasis he decided to leave and go when Bonehead decided to leave as it was the right time.

I’m part of a (virtual) collectors group and a few of the guys on there were lucky enough to arrange a meet with Guigs late last year.
They met him for him to sign some records. Not sure how this was arranged or who their mutual contact was. But they said he was warm and funny and very nice to them.
He said that he leads a simple life and “Cricket, football, Dr Who... that’s all I need!”
He was signing their records and looked at “Stop the Clocks” and asked - what is this one? He hadn’t seen Time Flies either and he was also bit confused as to how much Noels signature has changed over the years. So I don’t think he is too interested in following developments over the years. From what others said of him back in the day, he had his own diverse taste in music.
Sounds like Guigs had his time in Oasis and let’s face it, he was there for the peak years.. and now he’s moved on and is content.

Gotta love him tbh, what a way to live and make it.
Made his money being a part of something massive by not being that talented or really being that focal in the whole workings of it and then leaves when it all blows over and then never has to work again lol.
Dunno how much he made originally or has since 2000, would be interesting to see a breakdown if someone knows how these things work.
But with the relaxed life he lives, it's more than enough for him.
I remember Liam once said he lived down the road from him in an interview a few years ago (but he never sees him), dunno if that's still the case.

Some people know when they've had enough. Some people will never not want more no matter what. Both seem cool in their own ways.

There is a fantastic interview on the Oasis podcast with Guigsys sister Mary and it’s as close as you will to the Guigsy story. Would highly recommend this podcast to anyone. She talks about the very early days from the rain right up to his departure and everything in between.

She talks about the very early days from the rain right up to his departure and everything in between. Cheers... yes Mary has been on the pod twice, once walking around Manchester and then another time remotely answering listeners questions As Mary tells it Paul is just an incredibly quiet and shy person, joined a band for a laugh not expecting it to be anything, next thing he knows Liam and Noel are in and it’s gone massive. He never enjoyed the fame aspect of it so as soon as it wasn’t fun anymore he got out. He did briefly manage a reggae band and did a couple of interviews around that, plus he had a home studio where he did a bit of recording for people, he played on a song for Cornershop, but since then he’s basically just been chilling, raising his family in peace. I’d love to interview him but in reality it’s never going to happen as he doesn’t need the money and he doesn’t want the attention

I never knew that Guigsy once briefly managed a reggae band or he that he had a home studio once etc. I thought once he left Oasis that he didn't do anything else after that.

I just imagined him to when he left Oasis that was it and that he didn't want anything to do with working in the music industry again. I don't know why though.

I know unofficially that's not quite true but still he's getting royalties for the most massive Oasis records and some of the most selling records in England. I think he's good. Ye the recording royalties across all those albums would certainly be enough. It's like how when Tony took a payout of about £600k in exchange for all future royalties, the press called him "the stupidest man in showbiz" or something, as he'd have earned so much more than that in future years if he'd only been patient. And Tony's were just for Definitely Maybe, one WTSMG track and about half the Masterplan. While Guigs gets royalties for all of those albums and Be Here Now. So it's pretty certain Guigs was set for life when he left, and even more well off now.

However, Noel is known for being sharp and a little sinister. I wouldn't put it past him cutting Guigs' royalties for any album tracks Noel did in his place.

Think he'd just give himself the credit if that was the case (as he did with drums and guitar and keys) Yeah I agree, he would have given himself credit. We know because we're hardcore fans that Guigsy didn't play the bass on several tracks but if we're just an ordinary fan, looking at the sleeve, we'd be none the wiser. Noel hid the fact that he played bass on the first three records and publicly all the credit went to Guigsy. Whereas if you look at DOYS you know that Noel played drums on a couple of tracks and you know which ones and Zak is not getting a dime for those. Also I would add that Noel is also known for given proper credit. Look at Falling Down where he praised the part written by Jay and kept saying how it took the song in another direction.
