Couldn't find a specific thread discussing this, but I've been wondering how much Noel had a plan for the early years? - Learning on the road with the Inspiral Carpets
- Getting what they needed from the Real People sessions
- Insisting on an almost professional schedule of practicing with the band
- Sketching out which songs would be on albums 1-3 before the first was released
- Knowing how to play the media from day 1, saying what they wanted to hear or write about for more press coverage
How much was Noel's plan, and how much was just luck / record company know how?

I certainly don’t think Noel had a plan to start with (before he became a roadie) but I reckon he soon thought that he could do what the Inspirals were doing and had better songs.
The key was Liam joining The Rain - as Noel has since said, it was like the car was there and he just needed to drive it.
You’ve got to say though that Noel was very switched on in terms of how to play the media and create the right image around the band. A lot of it was luck but Noel definitely had a master plan (ahem) in mind along the way.

Don't think he planned much before joining Oasis, then I think he grew more and more confident that they had what it took to make it and he had a good understanding of what they needed and how to work things out in terms of practices, getting gigs, demos etc, and he was already a songwriter and a solid musician all around He also got the right people involved since the start (which is partially luck, see Alan McGee, but also having the right connections) Working with the Inspirals and hanging around with them clearly taught him a lot, probably not only in terms of what to do but also of what not to do, and he had the right mindset, he was hard-working but also quite switched on and street smart Timing was still huge for them tho, I don't think even in his most optimistic moments he thought Definitely Maybe and What's The Story would do that well

Also there are huge leaps between these videos, and Jan '92-Spring '93.
Hard work? Practice? Guidance?
Someone put a gun to Noel's head and force him to write a bio... with no lies!

Doubt there was any plan, just hard work, opportunity, luck. And of course, talent.

I don't think that he planned much as like someone else has said it was just luck and talent. But that said Noel himself had already had experience even before joining Oasis (or Rain as they were called back then) with him working for The Inspiral Carpets. He'd already seen the world and I think that he had been writing for a while too. We already know that he had many if not all of the songs for Definitely Maybe.

Someone put a gun to Noel's head and force him to write a bio... with no lies! Sure, dude ...good luck with that. If anyone is going to punch holes in the Oasis myths of yore, the least likely person is Noel, though he might spin some new ones when he finally gets around to the book. Both things are usually true, though. You can have a basic plan (and obvious talent), which is rarely enough, but then you have to get lucky with that plan (and your talent). That's kind of the trick.

Question: how does a band like Inspiral Carpets end up playing a gig at the River Plate Stadium? How did that happen? Or were they a support act?

Question: how does a band like Inspiral Carpets end up playing a gig at the River Plate Stadium? How did that happen? Or were they a support act? Setlist.fm says the performance was part of the Derby Rock Festival, held in the stadium. They must've been an early afternoon act or something.

Noel absolutely had a plan in the early days of Oasis - he literally intentionally saved All Around the World for a ‘third album.’ And he imagined that third album would be where the band could monetarily afford throwing the kitchen sink at the album. We call this a plan, and a very accurate one at that.
Also, anyone who puts in the amount of immense effort that Oasis put in pre-DM - which is down to Noel’s fostering of discipline and keeping a really tight ship with all the rehearsing at the Boardwalk - has at the very least a vision, and at the most a realistic plan.
He (and they) did this in the pre-internet era. A concept that people have since forgotten, and one which is lost in the current generational era. That alone makes their success even more significant and monumental. Noel had a vision for the band. And visions almost always include a realistic target.... a realistic plan.
A visionary, indeed.
