Delicious groove to this one. Nice little video for it too. The smilling girl opening her eyes in time with the music as the screen ratio changes and colour pours in was a stroke of genius.
Anyone else noticed the slight Eastern inflections in some of Weller's output over the last ten years? There were a couple of tunes on Sonik Kicks, like 'Drifters', which stuck out at me on last listen. Obviously 'Books' from True Meanings had Indian instruments and singing on it; and I always thought 'More' had a certain hazy Middle East quality to it, which the Mid-Sömmer Musik version really brings out. It would be interesting to hear Weller, a distinctly British artist and disciple of American soul, incorporate more "world music" influences into his own music.
His work with Stone Foundation is quite amazing.

Fat Pop ended the week at #1, making it Weller's 6th solo #1 album. He's had at least one number one record in each of the last five decades ... crazy achievement.

I loved On Sunset and I still do, but I'm loving Fat Pop more now. Cosmic Fringes and Still Glides The Stream are completely different kind of songs, but still both songs fits to each other. Well done, Mr. Weller. You never disappoints me.

I’m still waiting for my CD to come...
The shop has just got the LP in last week but the CD will come when it comes. I know it’s really pathetic for me to complain about music shipments and deliveries in this age of covid but going to the shops to pick up new releases on the day of and spend the rest of the day listening was one of the biggest little joys in my life. Most new albums I’ve been after have been delayed longer than a month.
(Yes I know I can just download it off iTunes but it’s the thrill of the hubt isn’t it?)

I'm happy that I still have my local record store that I can always count on. The store itself is old, small, messy, but some kind of heaven for any music lover. Remember, all the good things come to those who wait and this album is worth to wait. You'll love it, I'm sure.

Picked up my CD copy yesterday! Just had to share. I’ll write back after I’ve had the chance to listen a few times over the weekend.

Weller's fantastic live performance (without audiences) with BBC Symphony Orchestra from last month will be released on 3rd December!

Fat Pop sounds like Blur, Graham Coxon.

Well I had the chance to listen to it a few times and here are some of my thoughts on it. I do like it, though that really isn’t saying much as I like or love every Paul Weller album. It’s got some fresh sounds, I think the more snappy album runtime works for it, even though it doesn’t feel particularly short. The tunes that stuck out to me most are Fat Pop, in Glad Times, Shades of Blue, Moving Canvas, and That Pleasure (I think it’s called). Cobwebs and Still Glides the Stream were also noteworthy on first impressions.
I didn’t love it as much as On Sunset, but I definitely do like Fat Pop enough to feel it sits well with Weller’s other albums. For me, True Meanings is a 10/10, On Sunset a 9/10. Right now I’d score this one a 7/10. I’d say it’s most comparable to A Kind Revolution but also Sonic Kicks.

Listened to it 2-3 times in the last couple of days. It's all right, don't know if I'll listen to any of the songs in the future but I'm completely sure that it would sound a 1000 times better on vinyl. Sadly, record prices don't allow me to experiment in this kind of way but the limited edition yellow cassette looks brilliant.

Also, no meaningful artist ever comes to Hungary so I'm cluless about this, but I've just realised how incredibly expensive gigs are. Thought I'd check how much the tickets cost for the Paul Weller gig in the Gasometer, Vienna, and it's 45 Euros? And it's on the cheaper side as well??? Never be a music fan in Hungary... First the records, now the gigs... I must move somewhere else.

As a huge The Jam/Weller fan, I just can't miss him when he comes to play over here. Tickets are getting more expensive past years. I remember I paid about 33 Euro's for Oasis in 2005 and 2009. These days at least 45 Euro's for Liam/Noel solo gigs. and since Brexit, it'll be more expensive from now on as UK bands need to get a visa to tour in mainland Europe.

Weller cancelled his upcoming (and postponed for 2 year) European tour and there will be no re-shedule dates. Just as we're back to normal over here and everything is open again... My heart is completely broken.

Here we go, canceled! Does it count as my 4th failed trying to see him if I had not bought a ticket yet? But I would have... Actually I am starting to think it's not to be. We are star-crossed, Mr. Weller and me. 😂

I was hoping he would re-schedule the entire European tour this Autumn as May/June Euro tour is cancelled after postponed for 2 years. Their statement of cancelling European tour was "due to current Covid-19 restriction in Europe" which I found BS as everything here is open now. I guess he wants to focus on the UK tour this year to catch the gap. Hopefully we'll see him next year.

I think if I do buy a ticket next time it will be the day before, just to be sure.
