This thought came up while working from home, watching the snow breeze though my window.
To me anything by The Twilight Sad is a perfect "Winter" album. It has definitely got to do with where they come from (Glasgow). They say they're making miserable music. Miserable, but beautiful.
So what's your "Winter" album/music?

Great question Mimmi! It seems a bit unimaginative considering they are from Iceland, but Sigur Ros's Valtari gives off wintry vibes and the slow moving and heavy aesthetics of the music is very glacial like. Like a snowstorm, pretty but unpredictable. I also think Roger Eno/Brian Eno's album from last year Mixing Colours is incredibly serene and intimate. Like most ambient music, it provokes imagery in your mind and for me, the music here fits well with those days where the land is blanketed with snow, deadening all the sound around and the only movement you notice is the falling snowflakes. It's like time has slowed down and ambient music allows you that moment to just contemplate, much like a snow day.

How can I forget to mentione Valtari, matt? It's absolute stunning album and truly beautiful. I'm gonna check Mixing Colours. Thanks for recommendation! I've added one Winter song for me.

Disintegration by The Cure is a classic winter record. In fact, Robert Smith held off recording it until the winter of '88/'89, though the songs had been written in the summer. I guess he wanted to capture a certain mood on the recordings. And I think they succeeded in that. There is definitely something "wintry" about 'Pictures of You', for instance.
And Tim Pope, the director of their music videos, seemed to get the memo.

I get winter vibes from Fleet Foxes' first album, especially from the obvious White Winter Hymnal and He Doesn't Know Why.

Absolutely agree on that. I’d say the previous album Kiss Me x3 is also great for winter. I notice a few Christmas mentions on both albums too. I’ve got more winter albums but I can’t recall them all now. I definitely listen to Nirvana’s Nevermind and The Smashing Pumpkins’ Mellon Collie very often.
