Liam could've continued as Oasis. He knew better not to, because it wouldn't be Oasis. Whether or not this news is legitimate, for either brother to invoke the Oasis brand without the other would be a goddamn shame.

The fact that the Sun is just running with this to wind up Liam aside (and completely taking Noel out of context from the podcast), let's remember that Noel says a lot of things about projects/stuff he wants to work on/etc (he routinely said during the 90's that he would both never and eventually do a solo record) that never actually happens. It's possible that he's trying to gauge the interest/outrage level of releasing more "Oasis" demos. It's also possible that he recently found/heard some of these on various demo tapes and it's his current flavor of the month (he'll talk it up for a bit, but then nothing ever comes of it). Either way, he definitely could release it under the "Oasis" name if he wanted to, but I doubt that he would. My guess is he will do something similar to Lock All the Doors and talk a lot about the songs being from the Oasis period, but will ultimately be released under his own name -- if he even records/releases them at all. He is notorious for recording something and then feeling that it isn't right for release.

He'll release it under his own name, which I think is absolutely as it should be. Doesn't matter if they were written 20 years or backstage at Knebworth, Noel Gallagher songs = Noel Gallagher release.
As I said on another forum, anything Noel writes will always be linked to whether or not Liam could or should have sung it but it's his music, he decides what happens.

Going off past experience, I find it difficult to get worked up about previously unheard Oasis material.

I think if it was released as an Oasis song on whatever format, album or single then there are songs that belong to "Oasis" but Noel was the principle songwriter for the entire lift of the band once he joined so he's bound to have material left over.
