Obviously Biden has got a big job on his hands but I wish him well. After all he's talking over from the worst US president ever so I guess that it won't be easy but give him a chance. We've played this game before with Obama. We used this for his entire first term to excuse weakness. We continued using it for his second term. Now we look back on those days and ask "What the fuck happened? What a disappointment." We can't make the same mistake this time. We have to keep pressure on the president, no exceptions, no excuses or we aid the overton window in moving further to the right as it has been trending for 40 years within the democratic party. Republicans are not our friends. No matter how much Uncle Joe wants you to think so. They are the enemy. Conservatism is the enemy. We don't need to work with these people, they need to work with us on our terms. With a Dem controlled house and split senate, this should be within reason to accomplish.
And no, I'm not suggesting we are capable of bullying Biden further to the left. But we can still voice our disappointment when he inevitably makes decisions in the best interest of those corporations that so kindly donated to him for that expensive inauguration, rather than doing what is best for working class.
very good post.

Great post. I have to piggyback on this as someone on the left to all the leftists on here: Biden is a centrist. You're not going to be happy with him. You won't like how, well, centrist he is. He won't go far enough for you on many, if not most, issues. But bullying him and those who support him won't help you gain any allies. Just remember, whether you like it or not, 74 million Americans voted for Trump in an election that was much closer than many had originally thought it would be. And the only reason why Biden won was because he was able to convince independents and some Republicans to vote for him (or against Trump). And until the electoral college is no more, you're going to have to work with those people in order to win elections. And trust me when I say this: winning the argument is meaningless if you're not winning elections. So all I ask is that leftists be fair with Biden. Criticize him when necessary, and praise him when he does something you agree with. But stay away from the toxic bullshit or prepare to lose the allies you'll need to win votes and win elections. I don't think leftists are able to do it, so I challenge you all to prove me wrong. (And fuck me, Biden is a hell of a lot better than four more years of Trump and Trumpism.)

The working class in this country is fucked until there is a big move towards voting in its interests. How exactly that can start to happen in real numbers (and beyond a few well-mobilized East Coast districts) in the current world is still a mystery to me. I'd love to see more people talking about how to change that.

Biden will do some good things, I also thought the inclusion of Sanders was interesting. His pet projects do seem to be climate and race equality and I was impressed my his diverse picks.
But centrism is centrism. For the most part it it means an absence of change, a maintaining of the status quo. While it will be different to Trump, Trump was basically an outlier.

Gonna be really upset if Biden allows those hedge funds to be bailed out (After their Gamestop and others gamble). This will be the first real test of his strength ... or weakness.

Yep, this is his first real test. Something unexpected has come along that requires action, will he have the balls to do it?

Obviously, no way to confirm this, but I don't doubt it as much as I probably should.

So apparently the change of presidency doesn't make a difference? It may not be the radical politics that people desire, but the small gestures do make a difference.

I don't think many people think that elections don't make any differences. The point is that acting as if elections are good enough reinforces the causes of all the problems that a better election result helps with in the first place. At the end of the day, democracy cannot be an occasional news event. It has to be an everyday practice - an everyday practice in which everyday people control what their workplace produces, how and where it produces them, and what is done with the profits. Anything that doesn't give normal people control over these handful of decisions is not good enough. That's the issue - it's not good enough. Biden is better than Trump, but he's not good enough. A good election result is better than a bad election result, but an election isn't good enough. If you want to stop the needless death and suffering of billions of people in each and every generation of humanity, radical structural change will have to happen. So be happy about the good things Biden will do. But don't forget that it's still not good enough.
