So Liam had decided to sing? Why then do they remove his microphone again? Because he had just fucked it up massively? pity he didn't sing. It was going to be a good acoustic rock concert. With Noel on the voice it has no character ... It sounds like the song of a Scout in front of a bonfire in a wood

It would be nice if they released the soundcheck recordings with Liam on stage

I don't think he had the intention of singing, he probably got up to do another line

Aha! Just before Listen Up, Noel says 'This is a brand new one'. There were definitely a couple of reports at the time saying they'd played a new song, 'On My Own'. This'll be why, Noel did that deliberately! Very good. I've always wondered about the origin of this. I saw the band perform about two weeks after this and they played Listen Up. The local newspaper reported it as a "new song" as well. I don't remember any news/rumors at the time that they performed a new song during the unplugged taping, so I suspect that the joke about it being a new song started some time before that for some reason.

People might disagree but I think Noel's performance and the arrangement of the songs were superb and I'm not sure whether Liam would haved topped it that easily.

Think he did a good job given the circumstances, obviously nailed his own (Talk Tonight, The Masterplan etc.) and had a couple of remarkable performances on others (Cast No Shadow, Round Are Way), but the likes of Some Might Say or Hello, as much as I still love em, would have easily benefitted from having Liam on vocals with the same arrangements Also, my feeling's always been that in an alternative universe where Noel knows he's doing this one week and not 5 minutes prior it turns out quite different than what we got, now that's something I would've liked to see

. Yeah it was certainly special in its own way, and I like going back to it from time to time even if not everything's a 10/10 Still wish he did one now tho, that could really be something else

Oasis Unplugged has never been one of my favourite Oasis concerts. It's ok but it's certainly not one of their concerts which I listen to often.

That entire Liam/Patsy/Owen/Coyley crane cam footage at the end is pure pre-reality TV-gold.
Just to put this into perspective, it's like only a matter of days had passed since Knebworth (!). It's only been TWO years (!) - almost to the day - since the release of Definitely Maybe. It's just insane how quickly the band became a lifechanging phenomenon for an entire country (and further sparse parts of the remaining world possibly as well) - even then, without the benefits of social media.

Noel obviously had to step in and did decent job of it but it’s not something I ever listen to now. Not a big fan of the arrangements or Noel’s singing with the notable exception of Listen Up! which is fucking glorious, perhaps the best version of that song.

I always dug the performance. Obviously it didn’t go as intended but Noel did a stellar job, the feel of the songs is unique with arrangements, never heard again plus at the time it was cool to see Noel take over which was still rare at that point.

This is great to watch and listen to, and Noel definitely saved the day, but I'm afraid it's also one of the reasons why Oasis stays just the not that big counterpart of Nirvana. The two Unplugged sessions got different levels of success.

And now I finally have an explanation of why Liam's mic was out on this bootleg cover

So cool. Where the part where Noel says shut up to Liam? IIRC Noel doesn't actually tell Liam to shut up, that was just deceptive editing in the MTV Behind the Music doc (or whatever it was called). In the original recording someone in the audience shouts to Noel to hurry up and he responds with "shut up".

This is amazing! More stuff from the vaults (Albeit just for us Gallagher Geeks!) I'd love to see the full soundcheck with Liam singing 1 day too, we know he did Wonderwall at least.
Thanks to whoever shared this.

Here is a preview of the soundboard quality 'remix' for Don't Look Back in Anger. I hope this will keep you guys busy as I get started on the remixing process. This project will be over-riding all of my current projects for now. If someone else could get the untouched audio into split tracks before me, then great. That leaves me with my 'remixing' of the gig. But alas, this preview should suffice. Enjoy! x

This is great footage.
Also, does this debunk the story that Liam was up in the balcony heckling? Other than Noel's 'There you are', you don't see any interaction.
I always thought all the footage you see at the end was Liam heckling Noel during the show when really it was Liam responding to the crowd whilst the band was offstage.
But then again, I guess we can't really tell what Liam was up to when the camera was not on him and Liam's even admitted as such on Behind the Music saying 'we're all big boys and I was only joking' so who knows.

Wow thank you I’ve lived my whole life trusting that the BTM documentary was how it happened and Noel acknowledged Liam. My whole life feels like a lie.

I'm guessing a lot of the Oasis stories have been exaggerated. It does look like Liam was just enjoying the gig, but it fits the narrative more that Liam was there heckling and causing trouble.
