Leiester City hope to complete the loan signing of Arsenal winger Ryan Smith ahead of Saturday's Championship clash against Derby County.
Smith, 18, is rated as one of the most promising youngsters on the books at Highbury, and will join the Foxes until December 31 2005.
The England under 19 international is a regular member of the Arsenal reserve side, and was on the scoresheet when they posted a 5-2 victory over the Foxes back in August.
He has six first team appearances to his name - all coming in the League Cup over the last two seasons.
City boss Craig Levein said: "Ryan is a young player with bags of potential who needs first team experience. He is a winger who can play on either side with plenty of pace and ability and I am sure he will excite the Leicester supporters."
The Foxes have also got the option to extend the move until the end of the season if this is seen to be a benefit to both parties.
However, Arsenal have stressed as part of the deal that Smith will not be allowed to represent the Foxes in the Carling Cup.
