I do think there's many grey areas here. But do I allow myself to think that because I like his music? I thought that too. And To be honest i couldn't listen to his music ever since that article came out. But that was my own fault. I only read the headlines, because he was a big artist in my music collection, next to Oasis, the beatles or Pulp. I was so disgusted that i couldnt even read the articles. He was done to me. Then, you have that LA paper article, and it all changes. Crazy that the NYT didnt follow up on the FBI dropping the case; It's just bad or biased journalism. It should have been a big headline. Like let's put that under the rug. It's just so unprofessional. It's militantism, not journalism. That's what made me dig in this story a bit more. If they didnt follow up, it's simply because there was more to it. And the NYT has lost a lot of credibility in the last few years. The Woody Allen case is another one. Just watch the youtube video if you have the time, it's very detailed. Sure, everyone needs to be listened. but who to believe ? Mandy Moore repeateadly said during all those years in their marriage that she was happy, that they were actually collaborating musically. Adams even stop making music for many years during their marriage (maybe that was the actual problem)... only to drop that bomb later. It just feels like classic media war if you ask me. Something built and manipulated by her PR. you can always find someone who will accuse anyone of anything for media attention. Ryan Adams is not the only one. No doubt those two had a troubled relationship, But abuse ? This was never mentionned in the divorce papers. the break up was amicable. She could just have drained him dry then. why not ? Something is just very fishy. Don't put your life in the hands of a rock and roll band (or artist) though, right. there's just too much ego going on  |

I also can’t listen to Arcade Fire, which fucking sucks because I loved that band, although not as hard because their last two albums haven’t been that great and was never a big fan of Ryan Adams.
It’s not hard to be a decent person.

I can’t listen to Ryan Adams anymore, I didn’t even read his explanation or whatever. I also can’t listen to Arcade Fire, which fucking sucks because I loved that band, although not as hard because their last two albums haven’t been that great and was never a big fan of Ryan Adams. It’s not hard to be a decent person. Happy new year. Well maybe you should ! Not dug into Arcade Fire because i was never a fan, so i dont care. but in the case of Ryan Adams, if you love his music, maybe you should read, listen to what he has to say, and what other people have to say. It's an interesting case. And not really what was fed to us at the very beginning. Happy new year to you too  |

Well after a few days/weeks with all his 2022 albums... There's a great record in there, in the middle of all of these songs.
Few tracks from Devolver, couple from FM, couple from from Big Colors, few from Chris, few from R&J.
The guy could have made a huge huge LP or even just a double LP in 2022.

I love Dylan's Blood On The Tracks but the Ryan Adams version left me cold, partly because he gives them all a country vibe and I admit I'm not a huge fan of his country stuff. There's other problems too - such as trying to turn Idiot Wind into some kind of calm, controlled anthem instead of leaving it as an angry bundle of conflicting and spontaneous emotions just completely misfires in nearly every possible way.
Dylan has always had a mature, confident way of singing even from his very first album and even though I wouldn't class Ryan Adams as "young" any more it does all come across as a younger, more immature man grasping at complex material written by somebody else and ultimately struggling to sound convincing.
But I am enjoying his Oasis covers - he's doing some good stuff with that and the actual songs suit his voice and style well.

Yeah the cover albums are hit or miss. I always felt music geniuses are not good at covering other people, because their own music style overshadow the cover. Same for Noel, Oasis or other acts. The only good cover oasis did was Walrus really. The rest was forgettable. They're best at doing their own stuff. I dont really see the point of these to be honest, but as long as it doesnt slow down his own records, fine, the guy seem to record 10 songs a day. Crazy. |

I was a huge Ryan fan from about 2004-2011. Saw him and the Cardinals live 9 times during that span. The difference in the live shows compared to the records made it fun to listen to both. I had the vinyl versions of every album including Orion and III/IV along with the special pink 7 inch for whatever tune, etc. etc. I've made about $650? dollars or selling all my Ryan shit over the last few years. Still have a few things to go too.
As an oasis fan, the working of Champagne Supernova into the live version of I See Monsters during that time was really great. And the Wonderwall cover of course. Saw Ryan and the Cards open for Oasis at MSG. Felt very weird that night and couldn't pin down why, almost like an ending or death of sorts...and that feeling turned out to be true. Both bands were gone shortly after. I saw the Cards one last time in 09 in Jersey and I'm glad I did because it was a much better show than the MSG one to end on.
And on top of the Cards being dead, to be honest, once I met my wife the whole 'sad bastard' thing faded pretty quickly and then with Ashes & Fire which was so restrained in the studio to the point of being strangled compared to earlier records, and especially compared to live leak of Dirty Rain that was posted months before, killed it for me.
I'm not one for solo acoustic things (bar Noel, of course) so just him and his guitar has little to no interest for me. Heartbreaker was never a favorite of album because of that. Besides Shakedown and Come Pick Me Up, of course. I think I was a fan of the Cardinals band, tbh, and the sound they created, live especially. Same with Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. Both got heavier in person and were really great live bands who changed setlists every night so each show was unique and fresh and gave you reason to see them multiple times on the same tour. I miss those shows.
I think it's fine to listen to his music, but I can see why people don't anymore. It's up to each person to make their personal choice. I still know people who are fans. I do miss Cold Roses occasionally in the spring time and Magnolia Mountain gets in my head sometimes, but that's about it. It was a time and a place and I think I miss 2005 more than the music!
