Anyone who has even closely followed Oasis/Noel/Liam releases knows to give their single a decent number in the charts you need to release the video, physical copies and make it available for download/stream in the same week. The stuttered releases are for Harry Styles etc who won't be off every mainstream radio and TV channel for months. This kind of release wouldn't even work with an Oasis comeback single, never mind Liam solo. Should have done all this on the week the physical singles come out and booked all the Christmas special talk shows then it would have maybe had a shot at top 20. It usually wouldn't matter but the fact they were targetting a Christmas no.1 makes me wonder what planet these people are on. ^^^ This. Were they really targeting it though? I think it was just publicity

After watching the video I now realise why they waited and released it today.

I'm pretty sure that is Noel playing the Liam character in the video. You can tell by the eye wrinkles.

We all know how this works. Coordinated drop and you gotta push the streams by any means necessary. Are you serious? There's not a chance Liam can compete with the amount of streams that even mainstream tracks that come out 2 months ago are getting. To be honest the way its done isnt right. Yes it needed to include streaming, but its including plays of a song. It'd be like counting how many times people at home were playing their vinyls in the 80s. It shouldn't count like physical sales. You're not buying the track again and again. The whole point of the charts were to see what people were buying new.

Embarrassingly enough, I thought he was talking about the song and video. I thought he meant the song sounded like Imagine while the video looked like Its A Wonderful Life, given that its an iconic Christmas movie. Or maybe the video was a cross between that movie, and that 1972 documentary performance of Imagine at Tittenhurst Park. Wow, seems i actually wasnt too far off the mark haha

Yes ive often said there should be a limit to how many times a user can stream each track per week, and that limit should be however many streams count the same as 1 physical sale.

I haven't watched the video yet but I'll download it off Tubidy and watch it in my own time. I can't be doing watching things online when my internet connection is awful.

It seems to me the point of the charts is to see what's popular. This is fun for us and very important for people in the music industry. While I think we can all agree streams have to be included in the mix somehow, it's going to be very hard to reach a consensus on exactly what recipe of streams, sales, etc is used to determine popularity. The method for how to translate streaming into a metric is going to be especially contentious because streaming is a whole new thing with no prior analog that quite fits. Streaming obviously isn't exactly like people replaying a CD they own, because every stream generates a little bit more money for the artist. So the current calculation method isn't perfect by any means, but I have trouble believing that a different one would be much better; at best, it would just be different.
On the other hand, if all you want to know are actual physical and digital sales, then I believe there are already separate charts that will tell you that, and you can just focus on those and ignore the rest of it.

Let's be honest though both Noel and Liam have never liked making music videos for their singles. Mind you, their videos have always been simple ones and nothing too flashy.

I think when you're about to have a lot of rights holders try to manipulate TikTok to their benefit and there's playlist payola going on at Spotify that the way streams are counted are going to change soon. It's like when downloads of albums/singles were announced without any other promotion and instantly shot up to the top 10. It's all just pure gaming of the system.
Aren't they showing the video on that special for the charity? Think it works for that purpose.

Agree with that, but the point still stands that replaying a song you've already played 10 times = 2 sales so its like the equivalent of going to the shop and buying it twice, when in reality the charts should just show who's bought it that week. Most people play songs they like hundreds of times in the year so it just seems a very strange way of 5 plays = 1 sale. It was quickly evident how silly the streams being brought into the equation was when Ed Sheeran had about 8 album tracks in the top 10. They did something about that, and i think they should make this a bit fairer. Liam will more than likely get top 5 in the physical sales on the 17th and actually chart at about 40. Something about that shows me this isn't an actual chart anymore.
