It sounds like an X-Factor song, and not in a good way. Really really bland what a letdown. After a few more listens I think it just sounds too much like an unfinished demo, which is a massive shame. I don't mind more subdued minimalist tracks, but this needed so much more. Bring forward some of the lovely instrumental pieces and add some drums. Would have worked out better if they threw the kitchen sink at it. On a positive note, the vocal is amazing and coupled with the Hello live track I seriously think Liam is back to his best, for real too.

While I’m a little indifferent to it, it has been stuck in my head.
It’s a Xmas song for charity to be fair and I’m glad it won’t be going on a subsequent album.

Has anyone seen this for sale in 24 bit? I buy my stuff from Qobuz (including this song in fact). (As an aside, I love this melody / vocal).

Liam is a complete corporate man these days - whether you choose to admit it or not - and he's puppet for Warner. 100% agree. He wanted to be back in the light, he's done it. But at the cost of being told what to do. The music still is enjoyable, but no one can honestly deny that. I prefer Liam like this than Liam doing it his way or whatever. We saw how that went with Beady Eye. Hard pass for me.

All the lyric videos are putting "pain birds". It's:
"Close the pane, birds come and rest their wings" as in window pane.

I thought it’s “should the pain birds, come and rest their wings ..” Which I understood to mean if pain visits you, close your eyes ... Yes this makes perfect sense. It is 'pain'. A 'pain bird' must mean the pain and sadness and they don't sing any songs (no hope or joy). It never even occurred to me that it would be 'pane' in this case. Makes perfect sense if you appreciate that 'pain bird' is figurative.

Honestly, 1994-1997 was Liam's golden era but his second best era is 2017-2020 and I don't think it's even close. You could probably make the same case for Noel although Noel's been pretty solid since he began his rebound with The Importance of being Idle. Also, we should appreciate that Liam is not a one trick pony known for rock songs. We should admire that he could do both. In fact, it was Pitchfork of all publications that said Liam has proven his abilities as a nuanced balladeer on the WMWN review(and it wasn't meant as a backhanded compliment). Even pitchfork has mentioned how he was the greatest rock singer of his generation but has become a more mature singer.

I really enjoyed Noel's voice with his first 2 Solo Albums however post Chasing Yesterday I've noticed a bit of a drop vocally. It could also be connected to his musical direction. I still love him though!!

Oasis were pop rock, I see Noel mostly as a pop songwriter What I meant with "corporate" there is that what Liam's doing right now is no different than many Major artists, some of the songs are not even written with him in mind Do I have a problem with it? Not much, as long as the songs are good Liam's a singer after all, and a truly special one Would I love for him to take on a more adventurous project? Of course, but that's a completely different topic Oh but I agree Noel was a pop songwriter, and there's nothing wrong with pop. I would describe my favourite recent band, Alvvays, as pop. Same for Belle and Sebastian, Teenage Fanclub, etc. But there's a difference between pop and corporate, that's what I'm saying I heard Noel giving advice to young rock bands and he said write pop songs on the acoustic first, then play them loud. Get someone to play barre chords and someone to play guitar fills and Bob's your uncle.
