Wonderwall turns 25 years old today. Let’s do a specific thread celebrating literally the song of our generation.
Let this thread be devoted to the best live performances from 1995 to 2020 - including the differing versions of the track.
Also, please use this thread to list any relevant opinions about the song, and any personal connections you may have to it.
I can’t contribute at this very moment. But will later. Enjoy!

My Wonderwall mug cup arrived the other day.
and Wonderwall is the only one Oasis song I heard in my local supermarket. That's all.

I don't like how the management have decided Wonderwall is 25 today - it's not, it had already been available on the album for a few weeks 25 years ago today.
But I will hold my hand up and raise a glass with the other to The Masterplan, Round Are Way and the full version of The Swamp Song, who do celebrate their quarter century today.
Still sounding amazing after all this time 🍻🍻🍻🍻

It doesn't seem 25 years though since Wonderwall was released as a single and that the three b.sides The Swamp Song and the brilliant The Masterplan and Round Are way were released. As for the new merch the official website is offering well it doesn't interest me to be honest and I don't need any more mugs. (Anyway, all mine are animal ones).

I already posted this in another thread, but this seems like the right occasion to do it again Oasis music gets deemed as "too simple" by many people, and while it may sound like that to our ears and the songs may not be the hardest to play, there's a lot of cleverish stuff going on in their tunes, which is what allowed them to stand the test of time and affirm themselves as not just momentary hits, but pop classics Wonderwall as a song, and even more as a studio recording is the prime example of this That iconic chord progression, the immediate melody and Liam's vocals are as in your face as it gets, but all the stuff surrounding them, while going unnoticed when you listen without paying too much attention to every detail, is what allows those main elements to truly shine, and when you dissect the song you realise how great every single element actually sounds, from Alan's drumming to the groovy bassline to Noel's little guitar work to the smart chord variations

The best live performance in my opinion.
Always love Noel's intro (I think he did almost the same in Los Angeles 1998 gig). When i got into Oasis i wasn't a big fan on the electric versions of Wonderwall but now i like them.

For some reason, I still think that song is fascinating. It's one of the most original songs the band has ever done. Noel was right during that Q&A session, it was a great departure for the band. I often hear people describe it as an acoustic based song, it is but for me the true nature of the song is a raw chamber pop tune. That's the beauty of it. The fake cello lines and Liam's vocals make the song, and that's sadly what a lot of people don't get when covering the song. They all slow it down, sing it with Ed Sheeran type vocals, keep it only acoustic. And most of the time, it's horrendous cos' they take away everything that's great , unique about the song and everything that makes it one of popular music classics.

To be honest I haven't really listened to most of the Wonderwall covers and I don't want to. I've heard Ryan Adams's version and the god awful Mike Flower Pops (or whatever his name is) version but that's all. Anyway, you can't beat the original version end of.

What makes it really special is that it sounds like it's the most simple song ever yet there's nothing that really sounds like it

Wonderwall is one of those songs which will never be forgotten. No matter how old the song gets it'll always sound fresh and it's easy to get stuck in your mind even if you haven't even been listening to the song. It'll keep on selling and selling.

Is that worldwide or uk , there uk single sales are nearly that It is worldwide, about 80% of their physical single sales were British, although I think the British share in their digital sales is substantially lower.
