Something curious I came across. I'm thinking of those acts you like everything you hear, and naturally well placed to be a big fan of, but haven't delved in deeper for. Its those acts you have nothing but respect for, nothing to criticise them for but for some strange reason, you really should know more about and be a huge fan.
The Cure - I like a lot of gothic indie acts, and these lot are the godfather of those said indie acts. They're an immense live act too and Robert Smith is one of the all time great frontmen. And I think too often, indie music is pigeonholed into the landfill sort at times or hipster sort, yet he takes it down a more interesting path to deeper and darker sounds. So a question I ask myself is why do I not own any albums of theirs.....
Bob Dylan - every song of his I hear I like. Every song of his put into a certain context is perfect. Was watching the film Steve Jobs a couple of weeks back and Shelter From The Storm was used in the end credits, and I couldn't stop listening to it thereafter, thought it was a pitch perfect tune to finish the film with its narrative. His big inspirations are the old folk classics and another part of his appeal for me personally is his knowledge of folk music from Scotland that is second to none. And yet never listened to a full album of his, but one day I think I'll have a full blown eureka moment. There's fandom bubbling underneath somewhere.
Marvin Gaye - I bought What's Going On a few years back and it is one of the best albums ever. Massive for its political influence but what really drew me in was the lush expansive symphonic sound to it. Given that this isn't anything new for Marvin Gaye, then I have no idea why I haven't got any of his other albums (maybe this album is just more psychedelic sounding than the others, or maybe they just aren't bonafide classics in the same way and aren't seeped into the public consciousness??).
Paul Weller - I love The Style Council best of collection (seriously underrated), I love The Jam compilation and there's the odd solo album lying around. I've even met the man himself. But for a hugely influential artist in British music and for his prolific status, I haven't even scratched the surface with his work. No idea what is going on here, especially for someone with work so diverse.

I love The Jam and The Style Council but I'm afraid Paul Weller's solo work doesn't do it for me. Long Hot Summer is probably my favourite song The Style Council ever made.

Nirvana - I really like the unplugged, and if they come on the radio I'm not changing station, but I could never totally get into them for some reason
New Order - I love Joy Division, and I love some of their tunes, but I never sit down and check out the rest of the stuff, I might do it at some point tho
Echo & The Bunnymen - Same as New Order, love some of their singles but I never feel the need to check out the full albums
Paul Weller/The Jam - I love the guy and respect him enormously, and some of the tunes I really rate, but every time I try to listen to one of his records midway through it I just can't be arsed

Always liked the idea of being massively into Pearl Jam and Sonic Youth.

The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd. I know someday I'll give them a proper listen and will become a bit obsessed with them, but somehow I still haven't found the time.

Given how much I love Britpop, Id have to say Suede.
And another that I just havent got round to is The Smiths. With who they influenced I should love them, but I havent loved their classics enough to want to dive right in to their catalogue.
