Thought it would be interesting to see what bands/artists come from the places we live. Probably be more interesting if it was lesser-known bands.
I am originally from Jarrow, Uk which has Alan Price from the Animals. I now live in Dunedin, New Zealand which had a pretty cool music scene in the 80s.
Pink Frost by The Chills is an amazing song. I used to live near the lead singer.

Pulp and Arctic Monkeys.
Pulp are mega. On the other hand there's the Arctic Monkeys.
Mention to Richard Hawley as well, his latest album is great!

Hometown of Canberra: Alchemist who did a interesting take on Jeff Wayne sans the narration:
Currently nothing here in Dalgety

They're not from Bolton exactly, but they were formed here, so I'm claiming it.

The Cribs, probably the most famous, from where I've been for the last 19 years. Though I did grow up near High Green, so I can claim the Arctic Monkeys too

A fellow called Neil Young, he’s done fairly well for himself.

Nobody very famous from where I live, just some obscure bands called Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Sleater-Kinney, Bikini Kill, Fleet Foxes, and Soundgarden. Oh, and some unknowns named Ray Charles and Jimi Hendrix.

Not my hometown, but less than an hour away so that will have to be good enough!

I think the only from here, internationally known, was Falco, who was not a band of course.

Technically my hometown but that city doesn't exist anymore. Probably in top 3 rock and roll cities in the world in the 80s.
and so on...

There are definitely more I didn't mention but those were just those that I could list off the top of my head.
