I'm not trying to state anything false, but I have always wondered on the original studio version of Slide Away, is Liam really singing it in the key on the studio version or is the whole recording sped up? Because to me it seems like the studio version is a half or whole step higher than when they played it live, say, in 1995. Even though I think that the recording msot likely is not sped up, I was wondering if anyone would know any information about it. My apologies if this has been asked before.

There is an old thread on the forum that discusses this: live4ever.proboards.com/thread/46973. I believe that most of Definitely Maybe was sped up a bit during mixing, leading to a shift in tone.

If I remember correctly: Shakermaker Live Forever Digsy's Dinner Slide Away All sped up, 1/4 tone sharp Married With Children is the only one a bit flat The rest in standard tuning

In an interview he gave to Q magazine in 2010 producer Owen Morris confirmed that he varispeeded his mixes of Definitely Maybe, usually speeding each track up slightly to a place he felt was more exciting.
For the album he remixed Slide Away from the multitrack Oasis had recorded at Monnow Valley studio with Dave Batchelor. Owen's final mix of this track was sped up by 2.9%, hence the raised tempo and pitch. The earlier mix of this same multitrack recording (done by Anjali Dutt at Eden Studios) is at the originally recorded speed and pitch. Someone has posted that version on YouTube here. The more obvious difference here though is that the Eden mix is a lot drier and less dynamically compressed.
The band had previously tried re-recording Slide Away at Sawmills Studio, but that version has never been released. You can see a tracking sheet for it in this video.

Id like to hear that retake attempt. Ive always wondered why, unlike the rest of the album, they kept the Monnow recording of Slide Away. What did it have that the Sawmills re-take didnt....

Thanks for the link to this thread, and thanks to everyone else for also responding regarding the mixing of Definitely Maybe.

I'm definitely gonna check out both of the videos you linked above.

And there are people who think song length only became an issue with BHN. I quite like that mix, it's interesting to be able to hear all the different elements more clearly. Final version definitely sounds much better and more unique though.
