Poor old Tony.
I feel like 'Shit drummer' or 'Good drummer' would perhaps be a more interesting poll for him.
He was supposedly kicked out of Oasis after being compared to the runt of the litter. He didn't really help himself by then taking Oasis to court.
Supposedly so utterly horrendous that he ruined many different studio sessions with his laboured drumming.
Seems an utterly nice bloke, but his book is a pretty damning review of Noel and he was accused of being so far up 'The Biguns' arse.
But, is Tony a twat?

Listen to the demos and the live stuff he did well, he created some of thier most memorable drum riffs the opening of live forever and supersonic. He was never going to last five albums but I'm sure he had another In him. It would be good to see him on stage again one day with Liam and bone. Allegedly he wasn't getting what he should have got after the sacking from DM so don't blame him he had nothing to lose.

Allegedly he wasn't getting what he should have got after the sacking from DM so don't blame him he had nothing to lose. I don't think he did. He had only one style and one fill which he used everywhere and was unable to keep time. Imagine Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Cast No Shadow and Champagne Supernova with Tony on drums... He was the right drummer for DM. Although Alan made them a bit more interesting live, his playing was always too soft for me. But Alan was the man that Oasis needed after DM. Plus I hate the way he's still saying his drumming was fine when Noel, Mark Coyle Owen Morris and I believe even Liam said otherwise. And, if he's not willing to accept that, he has to accept that it just wasn't right for the music in the eyes of the songwriter. You can't really argue with that one. After 25 years he should get over it.

Definitely not a twat. Lovely guy. Had the pleasure of interviewing him on the pod and live a couple of times and he was absolutely down to earth and a great person

Noel said recently that Mark Coyle came up with the drum intro to Live Forever. Apparently, Coylie use to play that beat over and over during sound checks for the Inspiral Carpets.

And yet they rerecorded a lot of guigsys bass parts ( not all) but Noel is credited on lots of songs as bass rather than him. Yet no one slags of his playing, yes Tony like Paul had room for improvement but the yes man was given a chance. I think it more came down to personalities than skill. Definitely not a test. Yes loved Alans drumming too.

Can't fault him for the court case, anybody in his situation would do the same.

I guess the thing to remember is that the man and his abilities aren’t the same thing. IMO he was great for DM, but had to go when he did. It was handled badly at the time, which wasn’t nice. Time has shown he’d have made more by not suing, but i think it was more of a pride thing than a money thing.
His book was interesting, but seemed bitter, especially towards Noel and Guigs. Going off that, you’d think he’d never want to hear about Oasis again. Yet pretty much everyone who’s met him says he’s a really nice guy who doesn’t mind talking with fans about his experiences.
So Not A Twat for me.

I guess his book worked - it definitely improved his standing amongst the Oasis fan base. I still refuse to read it.

What was it like before? Ive read most of it, and its a tell-all book in every sense of the word. He comes off as very bitter towards Noel, and surprisingly towards Guigs too, i think for being like a lap dog to Noel. Thats why i take some of the revelations in it with a pinch of salt. If anything the book lowered my view; id heard he's nice if you see him, but it wasn't til i read it that i knew he still held grudges.

I’m too much of Noel fanboy, I don’t want to read anything that would taint all of that, especially if it’s credibility is skeptical. I know Noel exaggerates, I know back in the coke days he loved to hype things, I know his perspective is just one of many, but I’ve followed Oasis long enough to know that Noel doesn’t outright lie. As for Tony - I’m indifferent to his part in Oasis. All the other drummers are much better, all of which have a stronger personality than Tony. A book titled “The Truth” often protests too much and ends up being the exact opposite. Tony was cashing in.

I will always respect him as a songwriter; there was a time when he truly was the voice of a generation. Ive bought all 3 HFB albums, and in particular still play the first one a lot. Everything new he releases i give a chance, and probably always will. However, my respect has dropped slightly in recent years. He's become more arrogant toward fans, and that "oasis fans can f**k off" comment did piss me off. Also, more has come out on his brash manner and shrewd tactics in Oasis, especially with the media. Examples being members' departures, as well as Liam getting sole blame for incidents they both played a part in (including the split).

I do agree that Noel has turned excessively negative in the last couple years. I used to follow every interview he would do, always returning to them later on YouTube for his honesty, wit, and story telling ability. Man, can that guy tell a story - I can listen to him waffle on for hours (and often would do). But I stopped doing that a couple years ago. I’ll watch sporadically but he’s not coming off well recently, and I agree I hated that contemptuous comment and recent attitude he has about his Oasis fan base. But I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt here. But yeah I do agree with what you’ve said.

Tony's book was the first stage of my skepticism towards Noel. Used to worship the ground he walked upon (still love him), but now he has been demoted to my third favourite Oasis member.

Tony's book was the first stage of my skepticism towards Noel. Used to worship the ground he walked upon (still love him), but now he has been demoted to my third favourite Oasis member. Despite its title, i dont know if its all 100% historical fact. At times Noel distorted things so he came off better, and I dont know if the book does the opposite. Things have certainly come out suggesting that he wasn't a saint back in the day. Current relations also hint at this; namely that Tony has a problem with him but not Liam, and apparently Noel and brother Paul dont talk either. Then theres things from Oasis' later days. Firstly the reports that he fired Alan, despite claiming he'd quit. Then the laryngitis comment which he admitted was untrue when Liam sued. And also the rumours that he was already planning to go solo before the split; never confirmed, but either way i felt Liam didn't deserve sole blame like he got. I remember Andy also said Noel lied about the break-up, although they've made up since. So he certainly aint innocent for me. In the end, i guess we dont and will never know 'Oasis: the truth'.

There are parts of the book that are clearly exaggerated or don't for the timeliness - for example, he talks about people taking photos of David Beckham's car on their phones shortly after leaving Oasis (1998 ish) when cameraphones weren't invented then and weren't commonplace for at least another 5 years. But it's an excellent read with some great stories. Noel comes across as horribly.

Heard somewhere that he didn't get paid after the sacking even though he would have been entitled to royalties up until the court case? If that was the case he probably did the right thing. Be great to see him on stage again and doing an encore with Liam and Bonehead!!

Don't think he's a twat, his book is probably exaggerated but I get why he would be bitter towards Noel, whom I don't think is a twat either but he clearly wants things done his way and is a bit of a control freak
Not a very good drummer tho, and if we're judging the music he was sacked at the right time
