I had this perception that overall, Noel was pretty dismissive of Guigsy's and Bonehead's musical contribution. From what I understood, Noel ended up playing bass on recorded material and Noel had mentioned that Guigsy was nothing special as a bassist (and Guigsy probably admitted it). I used to think Noel thought similarly about Bonehead.
However, looking at Oasis' credits it does appear that Bonehead was used more and we know he played other instruments. Is the consensus that even though they weren't great, Bonehead did offer more than Guigsy? Did Noel value Bonehead's music contribution more than he valued Guigsy's?

Bonehead is a good musician. Probably the most talented in the band (while he was there). Noel pokes fun at him because he is an easy target, to be honest.

Bonehead offered some interesting information during the twitter listening parties, I didn't know before that the 'Imagine' part in DLBIA was his idea.
But sometimes he was busy elsewhere

Noel never did slag Bonehead's or Guigs' (or Alan White's) playing did he? I don't remember him doing so. It's just if Noel knew what he wanted on a tune like Wonderwall or Cast No Shadow, it was better for him to put it down rather than have to explain to them parts they might not have been proficient enough to play anyway.
I only just heard that the 1990s Pavement records went the same way. And as Stephen Malkmus became obviously the band's primary, most prolific and accomplished songwriter, the band just left him alone in the studio to layer the guitar overdubs since he knew how it should sound and I'm sure it's not uncommon in bands in the same boat.

Long ago I read that at the very start Noel didn't know names of the chords he played. So when he had written a song he played it through and Bonehead would sit there and write down the chords. And of course Bonehead played all of the piano and keyboard parts on the early recordings.

It wouldn't surprise me if he was an ok guitarist. Even with one of the later albums Noel said that he played all the guitar, Gem the bass and Andy the keyboards from what I remember though I suspect it wasnt completely true.

The holes in that theory are obvious because of how Gem and Andy wrote songs on the later albums. Geez Noel...
