My non-Oasis friends seem unanimous in agreement that Morning Glory is a fantastic song, even if they don't like the band.
Was there ever a tour, or even a few gigs, where this was dropped from the set? It always gets a crowd going and Liam seems to love it.
Anybody know for sure?

It was not on BHN tour and don't think it was on SOTSOG tour

Yep, it went missing for four years. Played in the U2 support shows in June 97, but then when they toured BHN it didn't appear once. Then didn't appear at all on SOTSOG tour either.
It re-appeared on the Tour of Brotherly Love in May 2001. It was slightly surprising at the time (as were a lot of the songs in the set) because it's quite hard for Liam to sing.

Noel was quoted at the time saying the set list for the TBL was based on Noel picking songs that Andy and Gem could get to play for the first time. I always read his quote as implying that Andy and Gem had input as to the Oasis songs that they wanted to play live. It explains why songs like Fade Away and I am the Walrus suddenly re-appeared on those set lists.

^^My Big Mouth returning for DOYS was Andy’s idea as well I think.

That's actually a travesty that Morning Glory never got played on the BHN Tour. That would've been fawking epic hearing Liam singing the hell out of that song with his BHN-era voice and the crowd going nuts at the height of Oasis's fame.

I think Cigarettes and Alcohol never got dropped, maybe briefly but never for a full tour leg or anything.

I heard that too in an interview, it was always one of the hardest songs for LG to sing. Prime Liam in 1996 struggled a bit live, they rearranged it so it fit with the monster riff-rockers Noel was favouring around DOYS and steered the band to (Rapture, TBWTL) and changed the key to accommodate the vocals from A minor to F sharp minor with capo on 2nd fret. Surprising given the awful atmosphere around the band that they managed to collaborate / give and take to this extent at this point, it was added half way through the DOYS tour campaign and was in the final setlist(s) I think.

Yeah My Big Mouth was played at their final gig. In fact it’s quite fitting that at least one song from every album was present at that gig

Yeah, I know, I'm obsessed with it. It's just interesting to me that Andy managed to convince Noel to add a song to the setlist from an album he loathes so much. Even more interesting is that they played it 3 times at the beginning of the tour, then dropped it, and then put it back for the 2009 summer festival leg with a slightly different outro. Anyway, I'd be interested to hear what Liam thinks of the songs as I'd love to hear it one day. Although I'm not sure his band could pull it off that well.

Yes you are correct it was played at the first couple gigs (rehearsal gig and Liverpool echo arena for sure) then dropped until the summer 2009 gigs, though they continued to play it at sound checks. I think vibes weren’t nearly as bad at the start of that tour. There was some creativity in the promotion, Liam sounded great. It was after the stage invader where things started to go bad. But that said, that situation was probably more of a catalyst than anything as it’s not like they wouldn’t have split up eventually if that hadn’t happened. A lot went down on that tour after as well.

The song was never played on the Heathen Chemistry tour either as far as I'm aware. Well certainly not on the UK concerts anyway.

Actually forget my last post because of course they played it on that tour. I was thinking of Wonderwall as I don't think that song was played much on the Heathen Chemistry tour.

That's pretty cool I don't know much about who picks setlists and had always assumed it was basically just the Chief. Glad that thought is wrong.

It wasn't played as much which is why when I saw Noel do it the first time I watched 9/29/2002 I was both surprised to hear it and also pleasantly surprised at the cool arrangement he used for it. the performance of it from that gig is one of my favorites and it's nice that it's in high quality video too.

I was thinking about this the other day regarding the 2000s. I wonder if when Morning Glory returned in 2001 if it ever was dropped.

I know that Wonderwall wasn't played during Oasis's summer concerts in 2002 such as the Finsbury Park, Newcastle Arena and the Manchester ones because I have them all on bootleg cds. And, I also have the bootleg cd of Oasis's concert in Birmingham from that tour and Noel did do an acoustic version of the song along with Married With Children too but Some Might Say was dropped.

A lot went down on that tour after as well. Yeah, I was at the first night in Liverpool and it was played then (and sounded epic). It was then dropped until the stadium gigs in summer 2009. The iTunes gig with angry Liam was amazing, he walked off for the majority of the song so we got a 3 minute rocking instrumental.

I think Cigarettes and Alcohol never got dropped, maybe briefly but never for a full tour leg or anything. First half of the BHN Tour. Noel played it electric at the Dublin Point when he covered for Liam on the third night (he covered on the second too but that setlist was much different to the third night one - and there's some vids of Noel signing Stay Young electric etc out there). Then it came back into the set from then on, and then from Feb/March 1998 onwards is when they added the Whole Lotta Love outro to it.

I love that 2002 version of Some Might Say. Doesn't Noel sing one of the choruses at Finsbury Park? Even with the key change, too hard for Liam to sing at that point I suppose. It's mad that they didn't play one of their biggest songs and first number one for the last seven years of their existence as a band.

Yeah I think at Finsbury Park last night Noel takes over for the second chorus. I'm pretty sure Liam did sing the first one. Smart of Liam to encourage the crowd to sing along at the hardest part for him to sing. I would have liked them to play it earlier in the setlist like fourth or fifth. If they placed it somewhere there odds are Liam would have more voice to give for those higher notes even in the still hard to sing lowered key.

Suppose the risk there would be his voice going like it did in Japan early in the SOTSOG tour, and he couldn't carry on the gig. I know it was in the lowered key, but still a risk, whereas by the end of the gig, suppose they could always blag it if it all went tits up FWIW, I love the 02/03 set, thought it was great
