Assuming of course we aren't still in lockdown. It'll get lifted over summer but if cases start soaring again can foresee another shutdown later in year.

Manic Street Preachers are doing the same thing in Wales in December. I know it's nice for the NHS staff to go, but the NHS isn't going to make anything from this if it's free? I thought that was the point
Edit.
The Manics are doing 2 gigs, first one is free for the NHS workers, the 2nd one you have to buy tickets but all the profits go to NHS, maybe Liam will announce another night?

I thought that was the point think it's more a reward for the workers rather than to fund the NHS (which the government should do, but that a different topic) Tickets free to nhs workers.

No I think you have to be an NHS worker or you can't have tickets, that's the way I took it anyway

NHS worker can apply for two tickets (one for themselves and another as a guest) but they must show their NHS ID at the door

The idea is obviously noble but common sense says no country that has been considerably affected by COVID will hold any events that brings a lot of people in 2020. There's a reason festivals, Olympic Games, Euro and others have been postponed for later dates.
I could see this happening if it was in a smaller and intimate venue just for the Workers, but in the 02? It's not happening this year. I even doubt the guy will tour again this year, and that goes for all other artists tbh.
Until a Vaccine appears I feel our lifes will be limited. It will gradually go back to normal, but total "freedom" will only occur when that happens.

Like the rest of you I'm a bit surprised Liam announces a big gig this autumn, same goes for Manic Street Preachers: epidemiologists say we're very much likely to suffer a resurgence of the coronavirus next autumn, that is if we even get rid of it during the summer which sadly looks unrealistic, so I guess social distancing measures will have to be maintained & unfortunately for artists big gatherings are really unlikely to be allowed before at least spring 2021.

It is bound to happen sooner or later, and when it eventually does, I expect Liam to sing Born on a Different Cloud. "You're the hero that's still unsung"

Really it should only be a lovely gesture. I like the fact that it just for NHS staff. We shouldn’t be raising money for a service that we already pay for through tax. The government should stop being pricks and invest the money it requires.

"Larger gatherings — conferences, concerts, sporting events — when people say they’re going to reschedule this conference or graduation event for October 2020, I have no idea how they think that’s a plausible possibility. I think those things will be the last to return. Realistically we’re talking fall 2021 at the earliest." The New York Times(obviously this is an article about America, but as we're all starting to realize, almost every country is in the same boat right now. And even with a better health care infrastructure like some countries have, the idea of any concerts happening anytime soon feels like a pipe dream.)

There will most likely be enough staff who have had the disease before then to fill the O2 several times over so you never know.

There will most likely be enough staff who have had the disease before then to fill the O2 several times over so you never know. Still need employees who work at the 02 to opt-in for working the event, not to mention security, and anyone else who'd be tangentially attached with putting on the gig. That's the problem sports here in America are having: baseball and basketball, with the amount of employees that you'd need to host it, you'd probably never make it safe enough for them to work.

If it gets put back then so be it, the plan is in place now so it will happen at some point. I doubt they’ll have any trouble finding the people to work that event.

I think he has announced it now as a boost to the NHS staff currently working this awful situation.
It will happen when it happens.
