To be fair I would never vote a Tory government and not a fan of Boris but I think they're getting too much shit for handling a situation nobody could predict. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. They seem to be taking the right steps so far.
Need to keep trusting what the experts and scientists say. Idiots like Piers Morgan have their own agendas.

Why don't we all just use this period of self-isolation and start belting out 'No I don't mind being on my owwwwwn!'?!

The problem is that many NHS workers have children, the last thing we need is them having time off to look after their kids. You also have the issue of grandparents having to look after them, the ones we're trying to protect the most. Its a tough situation to manage. The uk government have announced a £330 billion intervention to help businesses which is very good news. All the schools/kindergarten/primary school/high school/uni/college in The Netherlands are closed until 6th April. All the children must stay at home, but our government made an exception for people who work as medical staff, fire man, police, teacher, transport driver, people working in supermarket. Their children are allowed to go to school to be taken care at school while the parents are working.

I grew up watching Cesc at Arsenal. He quickly became my favorite Arsenal player ever. I didn’t begrudge him leaving for Barca, and while I understood AW not resigning him in 2014 because Ozil but seeing him at Chelsea hurt. Not sure if you’d consider Cesc an Arsenal legend, but in his prime at the Gunners he was immense. Okay. Sorry. We can all go back to panicking now. As you were indeed.

Tbh in senior schools the students are old enough to be at home alone, there is no reason to have 1800 kids moving around the building on every bell. I teach 11-18 year olds.
Primary is different, a tutor group of 25 students usually stay in their own room all day with the same teacher and this is the cohort which needs the childcare (4-10 year olds).
I’m hearing that schools will close this Friday, and childcare will be offered to the children of NHS workers and families who have intervention from social services if it is felt they are at risk being at home. Students who usually have free school meals may be able to come into school for a hot meal or the family will receive food parcels/money for food so the children still get their meal.
Teaching is, apart from those I love, the most important thing in my world but as a young teacher, with (managed) asthma, those people are worried about me.

I think everybody preaching 'it's about people's health' needs to realise the impact that this pandemic is having on people's mental health.
I'm lucky that so far I'm showing no symptoms and as far as I know haven't come into contact with anyone who has. I'm stressed out over losing my work and revenue stream and more and more sporting events are getting cancelled by the day. The work is also not going to just be there when I get back as freelancers aren't the priority – full-time staff are. That's the way it works for most companies (and it is what it is in that regard). So I'm very down.
Fortunately I'm keeping myself busy – healthy, going to the gym while I still can etc and going on walks/runs (away from people!) – and looking for other work. And if all else fails I've got my guitar to keep me entertained and friends to talk to etc. I know a lot of people have been impacted indirectly by this. My whole immediate family is self-employed, myself included.
It's not just this festival (I'm not even going) but the whole summer in doubt and frankly I just think it's so ludicrous at this stage to be cancelling events which are over double the amount of time away as this virus has currently been around for, as serious as the situation is.
But genuinely what's the point in even bothering if every good thing is getting taken away? The one positive I hope comes out of this is that we end up living in a western world which is more mindful about health and taking care of yourself that way (and others of course).
We have an extraordinarily unhealthy society and from now on that needs to change. Nature has its way of forcing these things, you know.

So my father has had a cough for years (lead he thinks), whenever he coughs he gets a death stare. Guys, dad is why they banned lead in pencils.

Sad.
Not for NG (though it would have been huge) just the state of things.
Entirely understand why it has happened and why it's had to happen now - I guess construction would have started soon. It's just infuriating and panic mode.
Europe's governments all have to take a massive reality check from this. Three years of arguing over crap like Brexit and something like this comes along and the world shuts down?
It's a bad flu. The worry is how it spreads and obviously impacts those most vulnerable. The fact that none of the western governments are in a position to be able to respond and protect those in the most vulnerable position is the outrage here.

I had a really bad flu a few weeks back, it lasted 7-8 days. I was bed ridden for 5 days. Could barely breath, extreme muscle joint pains, completely blocked nose, and a high fever with cold sweats and chills. Horrible shit. I wonder did I already have it? Actually might be, and I think you're not the only one

To be fair I wouldn’t give a single life to carry on as normal. I don’t care if someone was 110 and told they had 6 months to live. If being in isolation for a few months have them that time then it’s a no brainer for me. Europe will be fine. Look at the brilliant measures the French are putting into place for its people. It’s capitalism that can’t cope with this.

We are taking things quite seriously here in Spain as there has been more than 500 deaths already, and it hasn't even peaked yet. The numbers are similar to flu season, but we don't know how this could end up if things go out of control.

About 2-3 weeks ago he was ill in bed (only for a day) Now all this has come out it's got me thinking

From record low unemployment to record high unemployment in an instant. I knew our society was fragile, but fuck.

I know in America most of our deaths are the elderly. Media doesn’t go out of its way to declare that because of a complete panic from that sector of the population but I bet it’s similar around the globe. For the most part under 65 people get thru this virus and bounce back fine. It’s the old and people with chronic conditions already that are the prime targets of the virus’ mortality rate.

Without a doubt all events will be shut down. Sad times but safety is first. Three months away. Longer than the entire lifespan of this outbreak (to date, of course). The real reason for any cancellations will be the logistics of suppliers and stuff and all the legalities. Might as well fucking get the thing cause there's fuck all else to do. Honestly depressing. Having a really shit time at the moment (and I know it's not just me). Getting laid off work and having nothing to look forward to isn't a way to live your life. Yep...its utter fucking shit...my job at risk and my business could well go down the shitter too. So your not alone there mate. Thank christ we've at least got out health at the moment. Looks like I will be watching a huge collection of old oasis concerts over the next year ha ha as neither of the boys will be on screen for a long while. Totally with you on mental health concerns over this too. Hope it gets better for you matebr]
