Id say these would be my ideal first 3 albums. Tried to base it on which songs would be a match sound-wise, and if they were around at the time.
DM 1. Rock and Roll Star 2. Shakermaker 3. Live Forever 4. Up In The Sky 5. Columbia 6. Supersonic 7. Bring It On Down 8. Cigarettes and Alcohol 9. Listen Up 10. Slide Away 11. Half The World Away 12. Sad Song
I personally have never rated Digsys Dinner compared to the rest of DM, and even if you replace it with Listen Up youve still got one light-hearted song in Shakermaker. I dont mind Married With Children, but thought as far as acoustic tracks go, Half The World Away is better. I would possibly issue a different song as a single instead of Shakermaker.
Standalone Double A-side: Whatever/Going Nowhere
I thought Going Nowhere would be a good match with Whatever, both being quite grandiose and sophisticated (strings/horns etc.).
WTSMG: 1. Acquiesce 2. Roll With It 3. Wonderwall 4. Dont Look Back In Anger 5. The Masterplan 6. Rockin’ Chair 7. Some Might Say 8. Cast No Shadow 9. She’s Electric 10. Morning Glory 11. Talk Tonight 12. Champagne Supernova
Acquiesce is a good song to open the album, and better than Hello IMO. I’ll admit I don’t like Hey Now!, and felt if The Masterplan fit any album it’s this one, same with Rockin’ Chair and Talk Tonight instead of the two Swamp Song excerpts which I find unnecessary. I’d maybe issue Acquiesce and The Masterplan as a double A-sides with two of the singles.
BHN: 1. D’you Know What I Mean 2. My Big Mouth 3. The Girl In The Dirty Shirt 4. Stand By Me 5. Step Out 6. Fade Away 7. I Hope, I Think, I Know 8. Stay Young 9. Don’t Go Away 10. Be Here Now 11. All Around The World 12. It’s Gettin’ Better Man
IMO, Step Out is enough of a rock track to work on BHN, especially a version sung by Liam. That would replace Magic Pie, which I like but just feel its not as good. I would also replace Fade in Out with Fade Away, and add Stay Young instead of having the All Around The World reprise. Also i would possibly shorten a couple of songs like It’s Gettin’ Better Man.
~
Just my opinion though. Everyone else’s will be different in some way, and that’s what stops earth from being even more boring than it is 😉

I think that The Masterplan b.sides should definitely have been kept for Be Here Now as the album would have been so much better (but obviously not I Am The Walrus). But that said even if they were then what songs would have replaced those on The Masterplan as b.sides. I mean would they have been some of the songs which are on Be Here Now?

A song like Masterplan sounds completely nothing like anything else on Be Here Now and would stick out like a giant sore thumb. Be Here Now is brilliant as a rowdy rock Britpop swan song; it's in its own element.

Yes. Noel ballsed up.
I'm very skeptical of the idea that Noel wrote songs specifically to be used as b-sides. In fact the whole thing may well be entirely bullshit. It's an over simplistic story that doesn't fit with the facts as we know them.
For example; 'Hello', 'She's Electric', 'All Around the World' and 'Don't Go Away' could've all been b-sides to Definitely Maybe-era singles, they were all written in 1993, but Noel decided to hold them all back and used instead used (IMO) even stronger material in the likes of 'Half the World Away', 'Listen Up' and 'Fade Away'. He even references this in this time-stamped YouTube video - "What are these other songs that you've got that might not be as good? / "Ahh, these ones are better though!". It was poor judgement on his part.

I used to think some B sides should have made it to BHN, but now I don't. This was the genius of Oasis back then. Every single and B sides were as good (if not better) than the albums themselves, a trend that started back at their debut album DM and continued on throughout their career, but the first 3 albums definitely had the best B sides.
It made me appreciate and look forward to every single release, because you knew you were in for a treat with the new, undiscovered B sides. They were like mini albums themselves, with pretty much every song good enough to be a single in their own right.
No, I wouldn't change a thing, looking back now.
