The most underrated Oasis song vs the most overrated. My opinion is honest. Has a better melody and better lyrics.

Really nothing special about the masterplan. It's an average song that was randomly chosen to be worshipped, and even ranked as their best song. The question is why. The lyrics are fine, it has a nice enough melody, and a generic sing along chorus, but what makes it better than Wonderwall, DLBIA, Stand By Me, or dare I say it... Carry Us All?

For me personally, it's not better than DLBIA, Wonderwall, or Stand by Me. But about whether it's better than Carry Us All...all I can say is that if Carry Us All was used in the last bit of Supersonic it wouldn't have moved this entire forum to tears. It's hard to put a finger on what's so great about The Masterplan, the best I can give to you is that it's got just the right amount of nostalgia, youthful defiance, and cheerful resignation, but yet on closer examination lyrically it's pretty damn close to nonsense. "sail them home with acquiesce", wtf does that even mean? Yet even that works to the song's strength, if it's nonsensical and unspecific it's easier for you to ascribe meaning to the song, connect with it, and make it about you.
Carry Us All, on the other hand, is a nice tune that gets too much hate on here, but lyrically it seems that Noel was going for something more profound than he actually ended up with. He sounds like he was trying to hit something deep and universal but instead it sounds like he's trying too hard. Plus, if the music were as ominous and vaguely threatening/apocalyptic as, say, Gas Panic, and if Noel sounded more manic and desperate rather than generic, then we'd have something truly great on our hands. As it is, a nice tune but nothing more.

Ok, fair enough. But 'a nice tune, and nothing more' is how I see The Masterplan. This thread isn't to prove that Carry Us All is the best Oasis song(though it's in my top 20), It's to prove that the masterplan isn't.
