I'm studying Oasis melodies and I'm wondering what bands/artists would be the closest to Oasis when it comes to melodies. For me it's probably The Smiths, The La's and John Lennon.

Slade and Paul McCartney would be my first picks. Slade for the rockers, Macca for the anthems.

The Stone Roses, George Harrison, and The Rolling Stones.
If you listen to all three's works, you can hear a lot of where Noel picked up on his melodic sensibilities, especially on the album All Things Must Pass.
I'd throw in The Sex Pistols, The Real People, The Smiths, and David Bowie too. Those four all added something to the mix, and I guess Bob Dylan too if you look at some of the more-stripped down B-sides where it's Noel and a guitar.
Above all, as we all know here, their influences go beyond just the bowdlerized Beatles, Stones, Sex Pistols trope that the mainstream likes to latch on to.

Look at "Here, There and Everywhere" and "Yesterday", they vary a lot in pitch. Noel uses little intervals like in the verses of "Wonderwall" or "Cast No Shadow", where it goes and goes back between two notes. It seems closer to Lennon way of writing. Lennon sometimes even stayed on a single note for example, "Julia" or "Help!" verses. That being said, there is some similarity between "Live Forever" and "Hey Jude" intervals in the verses.

We are talking about Oasis not about Liam's solo stuff.

Helter skelter. He covered it, and has referenced it. So safe to say he has been inspired by it. Definitely hey jude as well. Especially with AATW.

Of The Beatles, his melodic style is probably similar to Lennon. Like Lennon, a bit more raw and simple but really powerful and effective with the tunes.
Not much compares to McCartney’s though, whose compositions are more complex and sophisticated, akin to that of a composer or impresario. As someone who can’t read music, it’s a natural gift, untaught and based purely on intuition hence why he’s the musical genius he is.

Retracting my vote for McCartney for Harrison. After listening to Taxman and You Like Me too Much.

Noels lyrics have always been very metaphorical, straying away from blatantly relaying the message of the song. In this respect, he's more like Lennon. I think melodically he fits in with Harrison.

Macca melodies are constantly moving, the biggest example probably being "Yesterday". It's start on the 3rd, then goes on the 1st, goes back on the 3rd, then 4th sharp, 5th sharp, 6th, 7th, 8th, then goes back to 7th and 6th. Take now Noel on "Wonderwall", he starts on the 5th, and then you have the 4th and the 3rd that go back and forth.
